  1. MAQS preferred usage? 7 day or 21 day?

I've used the 7 day method in the past but was curious if others have used the 21day.. pros and cons.
    Thanks.

    Re: Quilt box building

    Grumpy,
Did you treat your double nuc for mites at all? If so what did you use for treatment?

    Re: Quilt box building

    Thanks,
Which shavings seem to work best or does that really matter as long as they are dry?

    Re: Quilt box building

Candy boards are a new thing for me too however I have been reading up on them and they do make sense in theory especially in a cold climate like mine.
My 3 10f and 1 8f right now are configured...

    Re: Quilt box building

At this point I built the boxes and then went around the inside perimeter with a 1" tall shim and one 1" tall shim splitting it down the middle so that the middle won't sag.
On top of the shim is...

    Quilt box building

I'm in the process of building up a handful of quilt boxes. I've never used them before but I'm gonna give it a shot this year.
My 1st question is if 1/4" hardware cloth is too big or if I need a...

Re: Double nuc quick strip dose

Do most that have double nucs or nucs in general even treat them for mites?
Just for background this setup has only been going for a little over a month so I don't believe that mites are a major...

    Double nuc quick strip dose

What is the normal doseage for a 4 over 4? Both sides are doing well, plenty of brood and starting to fill up with stores..
I'm wondering if a strip on each side is too much or if I should cut 1...
  11. Re: Veil advice needed for helmet/hat type separate from suit

I use that type of veil and other than early on with it and after one mishap I've learned that as long as I pull the strings down towards my waist to make sure it's fairly tight off my shoulders and...

    Re: Farmers Market Setup

🤔 chocolate covered honey.. please elaborate.. taffy or hard candy? Sounds very good. You could also make up some lollipops or drop sized hard candies..
  13. Re: White clover still going.. Anyone else?

I just mowed yesterday here at the house and the clover was still flowering. Burdock is starting to flower and goldenrod is starting to pop out. I've also noticed a bunch of long blue/purple flowers...
  14. Re: Double nuc honey frames going into winter?

    Thank you.

What about mites? I normally use MAQS on my other hives.. 1 strip or half of one?
  15. Re: Double nuc honey frames going into winter?

2of the 8 frames are undrawn on this side but they were pulling them out as of yesterday. I'm having trouble getting feed to this side by side setup though because the inner lids are not notched and...

Re: What qualifies as unfiltered honey

I might be wrong but I thought that filtered honey was when it was actually run through a filter press similar to what we do with maple syrup. Screened honey was not considered filtered..?

  18. Double nuc honey frames going into winter?

    Re: Returning foragers

There wasn't any brood left in this hive and there also wasn't any eggs. The only thing left was pollen, honey and the remaining bees. The nuc has 3 undrawn frames in it so I'm hoping they will draw...
