  4. Re: Methods for dissuading more beekeepers in a particular location?

This has happened here locally. It’s amazing how many people do this with no knowledge at all about honey bees, or even have the incentive to learn. Wait a year or two and most will be gone.

Re: Cost of package in 1959

I say 2.00. (no chicken) I can remember getting candy at the local drug store for a nickel, rolls of red licorice, Bonomo turkish taffy, and penny candy. Deb

    Re: High Tech Beehives

Hi again, I am very happy to hear you contacted Dr Bromenshenk; maybe your beekeepers there could be part of this Bee Guru project. I have a friend who runs a non-profit 501 c here in New York. It...
  10. Re: Why the heck won't they gain weight (after ALOT of feeding).

Your location I would think the queen is not laying a lot of brood at this time. The prerequisite for brood rearing is bee bread etc. Looking at all the answers you have received on this, I believe...

    Re: High Tech Beehives

Good morning, you asked about a beekeeping app. First, my opinion is have a serious minded person take an online beekeeping course with a goal of Master Beekeeper. As was stated above hands on...
  12. Re: Why the heck won't they gain weight (after ALOT of feeding).

An excellent recommendation At the Hive Entrance! All beekeepers should have this in their library. Deb

Re: Strange Comb Honey Wax Color

I would not sell any of that “cut comb” honey, it all looks ugly; definitely some drone brood comb, and the wax looks like it might be tough. And, no, you shouldn’t sell cut comb honey with lots of...

  16. Re: Giganto Hive: How to get them to condense resources

Hi Fern. I always winter with the equivalent of 2 deeps and one medium, sometimes 2. It may not be the “right” way but works for some of the bigger hives. I will pull supers/frames and if filled...
  17. Re: Methods for dissuading more beekeepers in a particular location?

“Then again, maybe NY is a REALLY good place for bees?”
NY is a big State like PA.
  18. Re: Methods for dissuading more beekeepers in a particular location?

Just what I have heard from friends, what has happened to them. Cronyism at the top. It only takes a few like the proverbial “bad apple” to spoil many. I don’t know about thefts or destruction...
  19. Re: Methods for dissuading more beekeepers in a particular location?

We do not have registration here in NY, but if we did that sounds good.
  20. Re: Methods for dissuading more beekeepers in a particular location?

If you have good honey that people like, yes, the unscrupulous beeks WILL put hives in that area. I know of one personally that did that to an acquaintance who has been doing bees for over 40 years. ...

    Re: What causes bee paralysis?

3 of my hives had CBPV last year also. They all 3 made it through the Winter; 2 of them now, when tested, don’t show the CBPV anymore, but they show APV, which I am told is very sensitive to varroa...

    Re: What causes bee paralysis?

I was told by Randy Oliver there is no treatment to “cure” n. cerana, and it was his words that I repeated above about either they live with it or don’t; he also has some articles on his site...

    Re: Questions on hive entrance

I find that the bees quard all entrances pretty well especially the big colonies. I truly think that the numerous entrances help with honey production; if they don’t want it they will propoloze it. ...

    Re: Questions on hive entrance

Hi, I can only offer advice on what works for me here in the mountains of NY State USA. I have drilled holes with little landing boards on many of the hive bodies, size of hole index or about ˝...
