    Re: Buckets or Jars?

The honey crystallizes anyway but easier to dispense. We have City people that come up here in the Catskills Mtns, and they like choices. I don’t use labels, not to insult anyone but I think they’re...

    Re: Buckets or Jars?

We did that and it still crystallized on the bottom, and it is on a butcher block counter so we can dispense it to customers; our next step is to buy a seedling warming pad that would be used for...

Re: What are the bees doing all over my house?

A mystery....maybe newly hatched winter bees investigating stuff? Some of mine were orienting, not as many as last time though.

Re: Two untreated hives in my bee yard

I can’t help myself, I am chiming in with the somewhat experience with my experiment. I used a top bar hive placed within the apiary but on the far end away from the other hives and did not treat at...

Sticky: Re: Today in the Apiary

Today we have a warmer day than the last few really COLD days here in the NE. The sugar shims are on all but 2 hives, and saw many hives that had orienting bee’s. I’m very happy with that.

Re: Mites zapped by laser frame

Did they give you an approximate price for the frame and who would be funding this? Just curious. Also, it’s a deep frame, many hobbyist beekeepers are or have already transitioned to all mediums. ...

Re: Mites zapped by laser frame

Good point, they did mention something about the heat; I liken it to doing a sugar roll where the mites detach from the bee because of the heat. As for propolizing the space, in their experiments...

Re: Mites zapped by laser frame

Somehow it senses the color of the mite and the shininess of their bodies, which is why it will detect a trop. mite also.

Re: Mites zapped by laser frame

They also mentioned it would kill tropilaelaps mites too, if they ever get into the US. Someone mentioned at the end how it would work with Dr Bromenshenks Bee Guru App.

    Mites zapped by laser frame

I just listened to Bee Culture/Kim Flotum podcast. Grow-NY has a competition with a million dollar prize. One of the finalists have invented a frame that zaps the mites on the bees. Very innovative...

Re: The right number of hives to keep it fun

Yes. I started bees for “me”, at a much needed time in my life. I love the bees and don’t want to grumble about caring for them.

    Re: Bee's Gone

It would be a good investment to buy a small one, check for a local used one. Are your hives near any power lines? They were spraying here a few months ago a few local beeks mentioned. I would think...
