    Re: Slippery floors

Mineral spirits is a good cleaner of wax, I'd think. Lacquer or denatured alcohol would be better, but a bit more costly. Less oily after cleanup though. Mabye better if the 2 used prior to painting...

    Re: Slippery floors

Once you get it cleaned, you can paint it with oil based paint or urethane. Mixed in some crushed lava stone from hardware store. Will help it not be so slippery.

    Re: Richinbama 2018-2019 beekeeping quest

Well good news !!! The nuc isn't queenless after all. I'm guessing that I missed the queen that returned from mating flight. She obviously hid from me, or she just hadn't returned at that time yet. I...

Re: 2018/19 Journal NW Florida Gulf Coast

Yes , dragonflies are here also. I saw hornets around, but they didn't go into hives. Many guards, or bees on front of entrance. I'd say several hundred or more on each hive. Also, my nic is...

Re: 2018/19 Journal NW Florida Gulf Coast

Re: Add Super for Fall Flow?

I'd say if the hives are strong, and frames covered... pull most of capped honey, leaving a few frames on outside of boxes. Extract them and let bees clean out 75 to 100 yards away from hives. When...

Re: How Much Honey to Leave the Bees?

Be careful not to put those frames too close !!! Robbing will happen allot. Say 75 to 100 yards away to be safe. The bees will love ya. Rich
  12. Re: Tree ratios on acreage versus # number of hives supportable?

Im.thinking deciduous trees would be best. As bees dont.normally use pine for much. Pines do create lots of pollen, but I don't think they use it much at all. Hardwoods make lots of useable pollen,...

Re: How Much Honey to Leave the Bees?

I'd take a box off. Leave the other, and put a box of frames with drawn comb, or frame with foundation in between them. Let em fill that, and pull early fall just before the end of fall flow. Then...

Re: new queen, when do I inspect

About 2 weeks after expected hatch date at least. Give her a chance to harden up a bit, then mating flights, then hopefully laying eggs good. 2 weeks seems about right to me. If in open the hive and...
