Re: Hello from the Missouri Ozarks

Welcome! Kind of late to do it but maybe you should consider (post in 101 so someone down there can give you advice) ending the weaker hive’s linage and combining the resources back to the other two...

    Re: Mid-Missouri Hello

Ya, put out as many swarm boxes as you can. Once you find the “honey holes” you’ll be in.

  7. Re: How late into the season will bees collect Propolis to seal the hive?

If you don’t scrape it off, a warm day will seal it right back up.

    Re: Hostile combination

Sounds like you might have two queens in the mix, especially if you’ve provided an upper entrance. Might as well let them sort it out.
  9. Re: Should I buy an established hive in Oct in Upstate NY

It would be worth it if the mite treatments are done, supers are full and he’s a standup guy. Ain’t nothing worse for you than to have a complete disaster come spring time and then having to spend...

Re: New Beekeeper in Central Texas

Welcome Blain, it will be wise to go back to your profile and add your location. Texas is a mighty big state with differing landscapes. Copy your question about the laws and post in the main forum...

Re: Trying to understand a varroa outlier

They found a mite ridden hive to rob out. AKA a mite bomb.

Re: Add a queen or start over in 2020?

The combine would be the best way to go instead of letting them dwindle, the robbers’ll just keep pestering them.
  15. Re: Anyone else use Mann Lake's Pro DFM? And if yes, what were the results?

I treated when weather permitted, when the hives were split up for nucs (each one) and just before the main nectar flow started. I’m going to treat when I start feeding or maybe as bee Arthur...
  16. Re: Anyone else use Mann Lake's Pro DFM? And if yes, what were the results?

I tried it this year and treated three times so far. Basically all my queens were new in June, no runts, laying well and the hives have good to excellent populations, in fact I’ve had to bottom super...
  17. Re: DON'T Smoke 'um if you got 'um OR How I Ditched My Smoker

I remember this post, it did go off topic mondo. Just for the record I did try the spearmint spritz and had mixed results. Some of the hives seemed to be more annoyed by it than giving them a whiff...
  18. Re: how often honey can be extracted from a hive?

If you’ve got nectar coming in, probably wouldn’t hurt to go in and scrape what you need off of a frame or two, they’ll rebuild it. Just squeeze thru cheesecloth to get the wax out.
    Might want to...

Re: Hello from Cape Cod Massachusetts

Welcome, I’m editing my post. Usually honey bees don’t go below ground like that. They usually like to get above grade, it just looks suspiciously like a ground bee nest to me, but anything is...

Re: Life of an egg in a cell

You might’ve seen some nectar that had not been consumed or moved into storage also.

    Re: Africanized Bees

Your going to have to wait for a month or so for the old stock to die off and what the new queens are going to produce as far as temperament goes.

Re: healty hives that refuse to store food

Yup, I concur. Time to end that linage, my mentor always told me “don’t let the bees tell you what to do, you tell them”.
  25. Re: I think today my bees swarmed today. Now confused!

Ya, the hives can get kinda frenzied during orientation flights. It’s good that it isn’t getting swarmy on you.
