I would use the popsicle sticks, I use gel caps for my regular honey for samples. I can make up hundreds before the market and they are good to go.

I would use an excluder just to keep the queen out of my honey super. Amount of honey to take depends on how you feel your summer will go for nectar.

I try to keep mine in the sun, the bees warm and and get out quicker and it seems to help with keeping other bugs at bay (not completely but at bay).
