    to date has been a good winter for my bees. Hoping the next month passes quickly with no further losses. Im at <5% losses so far.

    both the dead outs had plenty of honey left both in the double deep brood chambers and in the supers above.

    i use MP queen rearing technique and the queens that are produced are huge!

    Its really not very difficult to do and im at best average at grafting. The 10/10 method provides so many nurse bees...

    depends on the weather really. I typically get the apivar on late march early april. I dont like monkeying around in the brood chamber if its under 45F.

    trapping swarms is really hit or miss. I put up 5 traps in 2018 on my property and caught 4 swarms. Last year same 5 traps , same property, same locations, same lure...no swarms.

    so far so good. I only have one confirmed dead out of 41 at this point in winter.
    There a a few with smaller than ideal clusters though so feeding them and crossing my fingers.

    my understanding is that if you earn 10K gross on the property from any means including beekeeping you can apply for the farm tax exemption

    i have divided deep then 2 or 3 x 4/4/4 supers on each colony then queen excluder then medium honey supers and they will make plenty of honey in this configuration.
