    Re: Honey House Pump

Update: Pump is working great and no need for a change at this point. Definitely better than buckets.

    Re: Honey House Pump

Thanks for the info Bdfarmer555. I am going to give the Maxant a try with the honey and then see how she does. The Dadant is definitely on my list if the Maxant isn't up to the job.

    Honey House Pump

I just bought an older Cowen unit that came with a Maxant 400-1 pump. I've cleaned it up and it's running fine. I am testing with water and it's not really moving the liquid like I thought it would....

Re: Easyloader current US price list

I got my Apijuneda for around $20k all in. Moved 100 colonies to almonds, and will take 300 next February. So far so good. Was shipped out within a few weeks of ordering, so that was nice too. Don't...
  5. Apiary Registration and BeeWhere Program in California

Wondering if anyone has had contact or a run-in with county Ag regarding proper stencil / signage on their hives during almond pollination this year? I was going to register for an apiary brand...
  6. Re: Are you ready to replace carrying heavy honey supers by hand with an electric pow

Ooooh, somebody went to debate class! Also love the subtle (or not) passive aggressive "40 year old tool" idea.

Per the immigrant labor… it's actually a real issue here. I don't know if you have...
  7. Re: Are you ready to replace carrying heavy honey supers by hand with an electric pow

Everyone runs their operation differently. I would rather use a machine than hire foreign labor that is most likely here without papers. Regarding your assertions regarding the crane, my new crane...
  8. Re: Are you ready to replace carrying heavy honey supers by hand with an electric pow

I just purchased an Apijuneda 2006-H crane and really like it. I am an American beekeeper. I've had many commercial beekeepers here opine that it's "slow" or "inefficient", etc. Sure, it's slower...
  9. Re: Caucasian Bees, a new project + propolis/wax recycling

My bees do it all the time around my house and yards where extra boxes are stashed. I see them doing it more often in late summer and fall.

    Re: Caucasian and buckfast queens

Not sure about the Caucasian's, but true Buckfast can get very defensive around and F3. I've had several breeders warn me. Something to think about.

    Sticky: Re: Pollination prices

Seems like the this thread has gone a little cold. I am hearing $185-$190. Could probably get more if you have boomers. How are everyone's bees looking this year? I'll have to do some last minute...

Re: How’s everyone’s bees look this winter?

The stress for me this year is getting my bees to a certain frame count. I have some three framers I know will explode once warmer days and flowers show up, but they aren't worth much in the almond...

Re: How’s everyone’s bees look this winter?

$225 is a premium price. I'm hearing $195 all in. My bees look good. Some look weak. A few are bumping. I'd say I am averaging 5-ish frames. Mustard and other pollens are starting to flow in. I...

Re: Double nuc box or single 10 frame

I overwintered 70 double deep nucs last year. They do great. I would move them over to 10 frame as soon as the spring weather hits. I had a hard time keeping them in the nucs even after adding space.
  15. Re: Have Bay Area Beekeepers Queens Shut Down For The Winter?

Not at all. This is from a really great queen (was taken a few weeks ago) but I have solid patterns across the board. 44225

    Re: Boom for a Loader

Moved some bees the other night - only 20 colonies. It was pretty nice not to throw my back out, I gotta say… I post on Instagram quite a bit, and if anyone is interested in seeing the crane a little...

    Re: Strofoam Mini Mating Nucs

I bought ten of Mann Lake's double poly mating nucs this year. They aren't that much more money, and you get a double in about the same footprint. The frames are a bit bigger (IIRC) which I like as...

    Re: Boom for a Loader

Just had the crane installed. I still need to wire it up. I am a bit short on cable length. Very well made piece of hardware, and looking forward to putting it through its paces.

    Re: Boom for a Loader

I've got a Ram 3500 Dually Flatbed. I am working the bees hard right now, and haven't taken it in yet to get mounted. Will upload some photos when I get it sorted.

Re: Can you make a living with Bees

Went from 65 overwintered double story nucs to 220 ten-frame deeps. I will most certainly make money after almond pollination, nuc sales, honey, and a few queens here and there in 2019. Of course I...

    Re: Boom for a Loader

I stopped counting after handing out $100 bills all the time to customs, agents, brokers, warehouse fee, duty… Sheesh! Pricing is dependent on exchange rates as well. I think their prices just went...

    Re: Boom for a Loader

My AJ 2006H just cleared customs. Looking forward to getting it mounted and operational.
  24. Royal Jelly and JZBZ Cell Cups - When is Enough Enough?

I've been building cell builders and grafting for four years now. I know how to get the bees to fill the cups with royal jelly to overflowing proportions. My question is this: At what point - and...

    Re: Boom for a Loader

Machines are very well made, and beautifully designed. I am putting in my order for an AJ 2006 H very soon. It's a great fit for how I want to run my bees.
