  1. Re: For storing used boxes would cedar ball work as good as Moth balls?

JW, last year I was given a few supers & frames with comb that were stored (for a few weeks) with moth balls. I hesitated to use them because I could still sniff a slight odor in the boxes. I...

Re: Best way to cull a dying hive?

This ^^^ does NOT work where I live. Moths took over and destroyed comb & frames and made a huge mess for me to deal with.

    Re: Global Warming

I'm done too. It was fun while it lasted, but it appears 'they' are just as hard-headed & stubborn as we are. If we don't believe in it passionately, it ain't worth believing in. :lookout:
  6. Re: new beehive designed to stop bees from dying over winter, and to have 24/7 monito

    "...the Tesla of Beekeeping"

Not long ago I saw a Tesla being charged at a remote location by a generator being run by a diesel engine. Explain the logic of that to me before you sell me the way...
  7. Re: new beehive designed to stop bees from dying over winter, and to have 24/7 monito

Have you consulted the bees about this endeavor? My bees would like less hours per week to work with vacation time figured in. They also want restrictions on hive beetles & wax moth and where they...

    Re: BT On Honey Frames

I've always sprayed honey frames without any problems. The BT only works in the gut of worms.

    Re: First Frost Thread.

Spotty frost here on Oct.10 &11th. It killed soybeans across the road, but my tomatoes survived on both nights. I reduced entrances to 2" on all the hives on Oct. 8th.

Re: Cost of 3# package of bees in 1949

I was only two yrs. old at the time, so I don't recall the real price, but I'll guess $2.29 per package.

Re: Mountain Camp - proactive or reactive?

Me too. I use the bricks because they are easier to handle going on AND easier to take off when foraging begins in the spring. Loose sugar is a PITA to take off gracefully. :D

    Re: Cleaning extracted frames

I'd be afraid that with empty supers on while feeding, the bees will start filling the supers with sugar water.

  25. Re: Bee Excluder with empty super below a good idea?

Not sure I understand the question, but putting an empty super (without frames) on a hive may get you wonky comb. Why do you want to make it harder for them to get to the honey super?
