    Re: We three queens

I am very glad I made few foam mini-nucs - these work great as parking places for queens while taking minimal resources.
What used to take me a whole full-size nuc, now a cup of bees can do.
    Using...

Re: Converting 1:1 to 2:1 formula

In fact, this 2:1 thing is a purely artificial approximation - it is driven by the point when no more sugar can be dissolved.
In some hard waters, ~1.8:1 - is the best you can do.
    If you use pure...

Re: Converting 1:1 to 2:1 formula

It depends on exact quantity of your 1:1 now - to figure out if 4lb is what you need.
But sugar is cheap and water is even cheaper (to be concerned with the lab precision).
    :)

    Add 2 pounds;...

Re: Converting 1:1 to 2:1 formula

Being a small scale (like yourself), I operate by standard 4lb grocery store sugar bags.

    This makes 2:1 mix trivial.
Mix one 4lb bag with one quart of water - done (you got yourself 2:1 mix).

AND this has been going for decades.
Meanwhile, the public is being successfully diverted into fighting over LBM, abortions, welfare-queens, and similar insignificant and made-up chicken-poop.

    Criss-crossed Montana.
    Saw all that knapweed.
    Excellent pastures.
    Envious.
Actually trying to spread around knapweed seed, but too much competition for it.

Re: Found a queen and some bees on the grass

Since you provided no details, how should one answer?
Do you have a hive where this queen belongs (e.g. she could not make it home from a mating flight)?
If YES, I'd cut off as much of that thread...

Re: Using old frames with cells

I'd plug the old frames and not even worry. They look great.
Especially late in the season, the ready combs will help with putting up as much stores as possible.

    Re: replacing old queen

You should also google or ask how to install a push-in cage properly.

Whatever you do, don't just smash all of your old queens.
Hang onto 1-2 until you are sure you had 100% acceptance.

    Re: Very Thick Honey

At some point you will need to C&S if care to consume some of your honey.
Otherwise, just return the frame back to the bees.

Re: How many queens can be in a single swarm?

    Sure; why not.
I have a split in a remote yard right now - it started as a queen-less and I wanted to just harvest the ECs from it.
Well, I was late to get to it (darn it!).
