Sui - if it were me - I would make the split as you have described and move the old queen with the split. This will retain most of the old bees as well -false swarm if you will. Just another option....
also tape up any cracks or holes in boxes. less area to defend if robbing gets started
I have raised several thousand nucs. I get better queens returning to the right boxes by turning the entrances north south east & west. then if you want to put on stands do so after queens are mated.
