    Poll: Re: Engineering Project

One of the most brilliant engineers I've ever worked with (actually THE most brilliant) had horrible grammar. I guess his mind had better things to think about.

Re: Why would bees be doing this? See picture

Who knows. My bees beard when it's seemingly cooler on some days and don't when it's warmer on other days. And then it's raining and they're bearding like crazy, and the next it's dry and they're not.

    Poll: Re: Engineering Project

A strangely vague and subjective question. Not too heavy for some, but too heavy for others would be my vague response.

    Re: Todays Honey Prices!

Ha! Same with me. This year is the first year I started selling it - $15 a pint. I remind them that it's actually $10 a pound (actually less with the mason jar included). My friend asked where was...
  6. Re: Goldenrod pollen vs. nectar/ treatment rambling

Thanks Fivej. I've heard some negative things with formic, and the temp requirements look like it's probably better to use in September or October. I'd be reluctant to use it in August. I'm also...
  7. Goldenrod pollen vs. nectar/ treatment rambling

My 4 hives here in Connecticut look like they're pulling in a bunch of yellow pollen (I couldn't count per second the amount of bees bringing in pollen for any of the 4 hives). Some dark yellow, some...

Re: What recourse do I have?

"If you have a fenced in back yard i'd add another enclosure of 6 foot fence and close them in totally."

Unfortunately, the fence would likely be a violation of the HOA.

Re: What recourse do I have?

That would be great for me as I could legally eradicate the bear(s) that's been destroying my hives the past few years.

Re: What recourse do I have?

Not to be a jerk, but I'm guessing it has a lot to do with your hive's location. If they're close to your neighbor and they happen to be allergic (or even not and they still get stung) then I can see...

Re: Leaving supers off the hive

Ha, I was just about to post a new thread with basically the same question. My last extraction process was a mess as the uncapped honey in the frames just leaked everywhere until I got to crush and...

    Re: Full Sun?

So would you say the entrance position has something to do with it, or not so much? If my hives all got the same sunlight, should I worry about entrance location?

edit: wow, didn't see how old the...

Yeah, I definitely screwed up planning. I could have easily given myself more room, but now I don't feel like pulling up the electric fence posts that I spent so much energy on hammering into the...

Re: Costco 100% Raw unfiltered honey for $2.98 lb

It says product of Argentina and USA, so I'm assuming mostly from Argentina.

    Re: Apivar Dosage question

You're obviously successful with your hives and I am certainly not someone with enough experience to critique anyone. I'm slowly learning the best treatment course for my hives, which basically means...
  17. Re: OA vape 5 days vs. 7 days apart - what do you recommend?

A lot of unhealthy things are in our foods, but we certainly don't want to add to them if we can avoid it.

How close can I set my hives

I have a small fenced area in which I anticipated being able to set 4 hives in a row and another 4 in a row in front. I never really considered working them though. So the front four would basically...

Re: HELP ME! no fall flow?? lazy bees???

I'm about an hour and 15 minutes north of you, but you guys have basically the same forage. I know your area has lots of apple orchards, so maybe monoculture is an issue?

    edit: I plan on putting...

    Combining with 2 queens

So say we're in a dearth and the queen isn't (or queens aren't) laying and you go into the hive(s) and don't find her (them) and combine, what actually happens if there are 2 queens? Will the 2...

  24. Re: not new to bee stings, but I just had a real bad reaction

I think there are so many variables that it's impossible to predict. Depth of sting. Location of sting. Is stinger still attached? I got stung 10+ times through my suit, but none of the stingers were...

Re: Costco 100% Raw unfiltered honey for $2.98 lb

17.29 for delivery to my area for 5 pounds, so about 3.50 a pound. Sounds like a great deal until I read "Product of Argentina and US". What's that mean? How much Argentina:US ratio? Can it be 99%...
