Re: need to close hive for the roofers

So the bees were happy in the mist. I started it when people arrived and stopped when they left. A few foragers braved the mist but it was rare.

    Swarm question

I had 2 swarms come out of a hive on April 28th.
Then from the same hive I had a 3rd swarm on May 6th.

    Can anyone explain this.

On April 28th the first one was a large normal swarm and the...

Re: Roofers in Winter - Help!

    Hi
They are flying up and over the roof. I'm not sure where they are going but there is something "over there."
I think I will use the screen idea.

OK. So buy screening material rather than a wet sheet.

    Roofers in Winter - Help!

    I need advice

The roofers are coming on Monday. It is supposed to be 4 days work.
The bees are pretty cold hardy, flying at 42 degrees on up.

The bees are right next to the house.

    The...

    Do virgin queens ever swarm?

    Hi All

Last year I had a large and a small swarm come off of a big hive.

Was the small swarm a virgin queen? Do virgin queens swarm or only mated ones?

Re: need to close hive for the roofers

I like the strap and mist ideas too. I could use misting if the roofers come later in the day. The girls would probably come back but then not go out.

Re: need to close hive for the roofers

    Thank you.
I will add the extra box, screening, water, sugar ...
I think I can cover with a wet sheet for shade if it is hot.
If they stop before sunset I can let them out briefly.

need to close hive for the roofers

    Hi
    I need advice.
I need to close my hives for the roofers.
I have to keep them in the back yard by law so they are only a few feet from where the roofers will be working.
I'm not sure how long I...

It sounds like there are quite a few of us who have had a few loose bees.

    Re: Driving while Buzzzzed

I was lucky it was cold or it would have been a pickle! 8 stings is not so bad but 60,000 is not good.

    Re: Driving while Buzzzzed

I wonder what would have happened if I had been pulled over. I can't imagine that they would respond well to having me jump out of my car and say "Please don't approach my car, officer."

    I am...

LOL. Yeah. But cold is better than what they had in mind. Not that I blame them.

    Driving while Buzzzzed

Anthony told me it was lucky I was not pulled over because I would have gotten a BeeUI.

I thought the hives were closed up but the girls found...

    Thank you Michael!
So just to be clear the stack looks like this

    Cover
    Empty box with entrance
    Window Screen
    Screened bottom board
    Solid bottom

Could I ask why there are 2 layers of screen?

    How to feed dry pollen?

How do you feed dry pollen?

I have seen advice that you (1) soak it, or (2) grind it to a powder, or (3) free feed it out in the open, or (4) put it in a patty using honey, or (5) put it in a...
