  1. Re: What to do about missing queen and no brood

a frame or two of brood and eggs from the others might tide them over and allow for the making of a new queen while you are away.

or you could harvest the honey, shake out what's left of the...

    Re: nuc

$90 is about half of what a good 5 frame nuc goes for these days. they are certainly more valuable early vs. late in the season but the skeptic in me wonders why so cheap?

    Re: nuc

i think with the mild weather down there on the coast it wouldn't be too difficult to see them through the winter papa.

legally you are not allowed to bring a nuc into alabama from another state...

    welcome aboard william!

i added your location to the profile so it will now show up on your posts.

i'll let those closer to your latitude render advice since i am quite a bit farther south.

Re: HELP ME! no fall flow?? lazy bees???

that's what i see here too cwalker.

but while they are 'brood breaking' during the dearth, very little of the honey reserves are consumed. i guess we have enough trickling in during the summer...

    did you use smoke?

was the bottom of the inner cover burr combed to the top of frames in the super? sometimes breaking apart comb like that can set them off.

    Re: One struggling hive.

if there was honey in the weak hive the last time you looked and it is empty now it is most likely getting robbed by the strong colony.

how does the open brood in the weak hive look? did you see...

agree with roland. that's what i do, especially because we have shb here.
  14. Re: Will bees pull out wax in NE Tennessee in August if I feed them?

that's a very good question. i don't think it matters so much if they are working a natural flow vs. being fed syrup, but has more to do with the time of year.

at my location most new comb gets...

    Re: swarm caught 7-20-19

hard to say for sure, but my first guess would be the swarm left the parent hive with a failing queen, she crapped out quickly, and the swarm went back home.

my second guess would be the swarm...

    Re: swarm caught 7-20-19

hard to say papa. perhaps they just found your hive, or perhaps they were just taking advantage of no bees left to police the hive.

was the swarm caught close to where you placed the hive?

    Re: swarm caught 7-20-19

it's possible that the small swarm you caught 3 weeks ago came from a colony that was superseding a failing queen. this is common for small swarms that issue late in the season.

    if all you have...

  25. Re: Why would a queen less hive swarm with newly hatched queen
