    Re: No harvesting?

I'm a little confused as to the configuration of the hives going into Winter. Were they two deeps only or did they have a honey super also? Down here where I live, they Winter in two deep brood boxes...

Re: Lazy bees, too late to re-queen?

I don't know if any of mine are lazy, but I have some who stubbornly refuse to pass through a QE.

Re: #8 Duck Cloth Inner Cover

    Grins.

Have you found that they need any extra ventilation, such as a hole in the box? I have since done a few more, but I drilled a hole in the supers instead of the brood boxes to see how that...

    Re: A new honey color

Is this the first year you have separated your Spring harvest from the fall? Honeydew makes a very dark honey, otherwise it must be something different blooming. The honey color here changes through...

    #8 Duck Cloth Inner Cover

I got this idea watching a video from UoG.
I did this to nine colonies of various strengths. Some were nucs I transferred into ten frame equipment.

The telescoping covers come off without any...

Re: Drones Blind Queens with Semen

I find it hard to imagine the Drone cares if the Queen mates again after him. He is an insect that has a bigger problem now that he has mated. Pain and death trumps jealously. :D

Re: OAV with honey supers/Fall Extraction Blues

I'd say about 20% of my customers quiz me about treatments. When I say, "Yes I treat", they put down the jar until I tell them only with the honey supers off. That's what it's all about for me.

Re: OAV with honey supers/Fall Extraction Blues

    Psm and Gww,

I agree with both of you, but laws are not passed to keep honest people honest. They are passed so that those who stray too far past the line can be stopped and punished.
    I guess if...

Re: OAV with honey supers/Fall Extraction Blues

And I'll bet the EPA would spend a lot more money defending their position than any of us would, or could, for that matter.

    Re: OAV with honey supers

There is also an argument within the law in regards to "What would a reasonable person believe?" when it comes down to parsing the letter of the law.

I believe the label means for us to remove...

    Re: In a Bind

In a high humidity area such as mine, the more surface area the bees have to store nectar, the easier it is for them to dry it down. At the end of the season when no nectar is coming in, what looked...

Re: Crystallized Honey to Creamed Honey Process

I would sample the crystallized honey to see how smooth it feels on the tongue. If it is rough like salt instead of creamy I would not use it as seed as you will get the same rough texture.

I saw some GR blooming near the Kerr Lock and Dam, but none here. The Ironweed is blooming well, though. The bees are just beginning to ramp up the flying, but no smell yet.

I hope they get this price. It makes my $8.00 pints look cheap.

  20. Re: I'm looking for advice on planting around my hives

I broadcast Buckwheat at the recommended rate as a cover crop in my garden on the parts I let lay fallow on a rotational basis and as early crops mature. I also use it in random areas. It blooms in...

    Psm1212,
I understand what you are saying. A few days ago someone asked me how many bees I have. I said, "about a million." They looked at me as though I was lying. Then I laughed, clapped them on...
