    Sticky: Re: EFB options

What I did, to be sure my other hives did not rob the infected ones, was harvest all honey for human use only, melt down all wax, scorch all woodware. Terra-pro was easy to get in 2013, and feed...

Re: Double nuc, a nod to Mike Palmer

I haven't got one of these brood factories built yet, but your information on overwintering in nucleus hives has been very valuable to me over the years Michael Palmer!

    Re: Beginner Question (Emergency...maybe?)

I watched your video. It was long. boots you will find some I am sure. That was a really long inspection, bees don't look that hot, they acted like the queen was on frame 3. I use taller hive...

    Re: Beginner Question (Emergency...maybe?)

Hal, I wear almost knee high boots with my suit tucked in. For future reference. I can't find my hot queen either, I split her hive 3 ways, the bees say she is in the yellow box so I took all her...

Re: Made 2 splits , can I add more bees to one

that's what I would suggest. Or put the hive with the fewest foragers next to a very busy hive

    Re: Beginner Question (Emergency...maybe?)

Put your entrance reducer back on, when there is a dearth of nectar robbing hits high gear. my bees are in sun, all entrances are reduced almost all year here. I do have screened bottom boards so I...

    Re: Dadant extractor issue.

Actually I looked inside the extractor and I think the problem is deep honey, going to drain the tank some and try another frame. Had kids here and could do nothing last week

    Re: Bees staying home

feed, feed and feed unless you have a flow. Still you may have to combine hives going into winter. I live in Texas so that is the best I've got for your climate, hopefully someone else will reply

    Re: Custom Labels

I'm thinking of just using 2 pound honey jars, they do well with large labels, and everything else glass canning jars with label on lid. Going legal does NOT fit on honey bears
  13. Re: Water issues in beekeeping, water management, and the desert.

I have 4 ornamental ponds, 3 are quite small, all have a pump and small waterfall of some kind and there are surfaces where bees can light and get water. the trouble with desert, drought and bees is...

Re: An interesting story about wasps

I have a spray bottle of dawn and water labeled wasp spray, I don't worry about hunting down every local paper wasp nest, but those too near my door or my hives get a midnight visit and a couple of...

    Re: Laying worker help

Newspaper combine over a strong hive. I wasted money on perfectly good queens trying to straighten out LW hives, drove a mile and dumped the bees. Repeat again a few days, didn't work.

    Re: Bees staying home

The weather has been rather strange this year. Texas has actually been better the last 2 years, we've had rain so had flow. In years with low flow and dearth, I pick the best queen of 2 hives to...

    Re: Dadant extractor issue.

Thank you, I will have a look for a screw. It was pretty late last night when I realized the issue was getting worse. I've had an afterwork nap and maybe now I can see what's up

    Dadant extractor issue.

I bought a Dadant manual extractor a couple of years ago. Using it last night, it seems like the gear at the top of the shaft inside the extractor is not up high enough and it's causing noisy skips...

    Re: Custom Labels

The Texas honey label is long and cumbersome. I can get 4 to a sheet of 8.5 x 11 paper. Too wide for the 12 oz honeybears but ok on 2 pound jars. I didn't do anything fancy. I have bees chasing my...

Sticky: Re: squarepeg 2015-2019 treatment free experience

EFB is a tough battle to cleanup. I was fortunate, I harvested all honey, melted the wax off the frames for candles, bleached what was left and if it didn't look worth saving, campfire. I only saved...

My colonies are working a mesquite bloom and bearding quite a lot. Today, I put a canopy up over the pond closest to them, which they use for a water supply sometimes. Apparently they didn't like the...
  25. Study suggests fipronil caused bee die-offs, CCD.

Well this lovely article came to me via the Texas A&M University Apiculture Facebook page.
