    Re: Incubator queens?

Why not simply place the cells in the hives / nucs?
  3. Wilbanks queen markings will conform to the norm in 2019 and 2020

I learned today that Wilbanks marks their queens with just blue and green. This year was a "Blue" year (but Red if following the international norm).

I was told that Wilbanks' customers prefer...

Re: Another Twist on Inverted Feed Jars

I used 1/8" brass tubing that I solder up with a small flat washer for support. A 3/16" through covers is easily sealed up by the bees...

  7. Re: 11 out of 12 packages dead by 1-15 and still addicted. I must be crazy.

I agree especially when you read the following October 13th post by the OP.

    Was there any additional feeding?

    Re: Favorite Grafting Tool?

When I did my first grafts I had maybe 5 Chinese tools with me and after not being satisfied with the functioning of a couple of them I learned that the problem was mostly me... I will possibly...
  9. Re: Oxalic, Glycerin, Shop Towels - a promising stopgap flyswatter

I would fold them individually.... to have a uniform stack.
  10. Re: Oxalic, Glycerin, Shop Towels - a promising stopgap flyswatter

I'm glad it worked out. It seemed like a more tidy, and accurate method to me...

Could the towels be folded instead of being cut?

And could a vented bag be gently heated in a microwave to...
  11. Re: Oxalic, Glycerin, Shop Towels - a promising stopgap flyswatter

Can't a quantity of towels be placed in a gallon Ziplok bag and the correct volume of the oxalic mixture poured into the bag.... Without "wringing out" the towels, the liquid can saturate the...
  12. Re: forgot to stir/whip fondant...still ok to use?

Are you ending up with a granular mixture, or did it look like the photo below?

  13. Re: forgot to stir/whip fondant...still ok to use?

To "whip" it you better have a hefty electric drill and a strong paint stirrer.

It's possible that you added too much corn syrup...

Making something that resembles Baker's Fondant is very...
  14. Re: 11 out of 12 packages dead by 1-15 and still addicted. I must be crazy.

I'm surprised that most of the first-year packages have failed, especially if they had sufficient stores and no condensation problems.

My understanding has been that packed bees usually make it...

    Re: Most economical pre-cut supers?

    Check with Miller Bee Supply.

When I bought their commercial boxes in the past I was completely satisfied with them.

    Re: Making a QC incubator

How many colonies do you have to provide resources for your grafts?

And how many mating boxes do you have?

    Re: Making a QC incubator

There was a couple of excellent treads on Incubators and I don't remember anybody drilling large holes.

My air stone setup provides "outside air" when operating to increase the humidity...

Re: What exactly is an over wintered nuc?

The queen and the bees should have gone through the winter as a colony as you have stated.

If this was about my post, I don't understand what's being asked.
  21. Re: A few newbie questions (mainly about # of hives for my locations)

I would go with your dad's site as well. Depending on the the treatments used on the apple trees you risk having your bees poisoned.

I installed the heat unit through the bottom a thick eps foam...

I had the issue with Chrome on an Android. There doesn't seem to be a setting that will eliminate the issue.

Using Firefox takes care of it though...

    Re: metal queen excluder

One reason for not using a metal queen excluder to support sugar blocks is condensation. Moisture will condense more easily on the metal and drip into the broodnest...
