    8 frame all medium hives

I am newer to all medium hives and 8 frame hives in the last 10 years only. So.....we found this year at a marginal site, that has done better than I expected early on, an unusual scenario. Because...
  2. Re: Entrance Reduction for Langstroth When Trapping?

Trapping with no black comb is like....well..... use your imagination. Melt propolis and beeswax on the bottom board with a drop or two of LGO melted in. Trade in your wife or kids for some black...

    Re: Price for honeycomb

My Pioneer 4" X 4" hard plastic boxes only hold about 13 ounces of comb honey. We can get as much as $20 each, $1.67 an ounce. If I run 8 frames to a super they can be too thick to fit in the boxes....

Re: Caught bees and honey production

In my area the earliest caught, March, early April, yes. Caught on drawn combs and given an initial feeding. And some neighborhoods have later flows than others. So that can be a factor.

Re: Swarm trap plans-quick, easy and cheap

Here are my latest swarm traps.
Placed on the top box of the weakest hives in the apiary....box sized plywood, division screen.....dead out brood chamber laced with lure.
    This saves me from having...

    Re: Cow urine and EFB

I will stick with Mann Lake Terra patty. Works well and I would have a hard time procuring cow urine. Would my own urine work? Easy to procure and I often have to urinate while in the apiaries.

Re: Cracking Hives The Easy Way

We also only have major problems with comb between boxes on the few we have with those PF plastic frames. I was puzzled when my good buddy Charlie gave me a whole box of those for FREE! When we...

Re: Will new foundations work in a swarm?

I have heard of one swarm catch into a new hive with wax foundation but that was blind luck. I suggest at least two frames of black comb.

Re: Swarm traps - how big is too big?

Swarm into stack of solar melted frame.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpEH61fSbWI&t=5s

Swarms love big traps as long as they have the right bait.

Re: Swarm traps - how big is too big?

This video is of a very large swarm moving into a twelve frame box that had frames twice as deep as a 9 1/8" frame. There were about six frames with comb as bait.

I use it all the time. This is my latest heavy duty version for a new client. 6X6 PT on deck blocks lightly tied together with Timberlock screws. I make them this strong to irritate my friend...
  17. Re: Why does everyone think used equipment is ALL bad?

I am getting almost brand new equipment from beginners who quit after their first packages die. Often the foundation is not even drawn out. Almost no propolis on the frame rests. A far cry from you...

I sniff for the distinctive Foulbrood smell. I look for the distinctive Foulbrood dried larvae appearance. I stay away from old combs and old old boxes. I scorch the insides of boxes. Ap much free...
  19. Re: Why does everyone think used equipment is ALL bad?

There is a lot of excess paranoia about diseased used equipment. I have been buying and accepting free equipment for decades with no disease problems. Using common sense of course.

Re: Does anybody reverse/flip bottom boards?

I consider the 3/4" height entrance too easily accessed by mice, robbers and yellow jackets, so I use the 3/8" height entrance year round. If you watch during yellow jacket season they just fly right...

Re: Sideliner preferred way to render beeswax?
