    Re: Moisture Box for Overwintering

I add a shim to the top hive box with a hole that serves as an upper entrance for winter and for ventilation. Above that, I set my quilt box which as a rim near the bottom onto which I place a framed...

Re: What to ask at allergy Dr

If you are worried then sting yourself with a loved one nearby and some benadryl handy. If you have a bad reaction, take the benadryl and head to the ER. I tested myself when I first got bees by...

    Re: Fall Feeding

Not sure about your area, but I would want them to have a lot more stores if they were where I live. It's getting late in the season so I would feed them with 2:1 in paint cans to make them take it...

Re: What Pollen Are They Gathering Now In NE?

Thanks Mike. I took a walk and a ride and the only thing I am seeing is some Asters, so I am assuming that is what they are bringing in. I am surprised because there isn't a lot left, but they are...

    Re: oa dribble freqency

Agree with above that only one single treatment is recommended. People around me who dribble do it in the winter when they are broodless. J

Re: What to ask at allergy Dr

If you are allergic to pollen, you know that is a potential problem, right? Perhaps it can be dealt with by wearing the proper protection depending how allergic you are. You could ask for a bee venom...

    Re: BT On Honey Frames

Put off doing the honey frames hoping to hear an opinion. Anyone? If I don't know for sure I will rotate through the freezer and store them in a bin. J
  11. Re: Orange pollen in Early october, Northeast US?

There is no dandelion in Vermont. Occasionally you might see one or two this time of year in a sunny location in someone's yard. Most were gone by the end of June. There might be more further south,...
  12. Re: Orange pollen in Early october, Northeast US?

That's true mine is a yellow, pretty sure not goldenrod. J

    Re: Best Bee Smoker

I have thought this would solve my smoker problems too. Congrats and hats off for actually doing it. I am more of a thinker than doer, but tomorrow I am drinking a beer and giving it a try. Thanks...
  14. Re: Taped seams created moisture buildup- hopefully removed it in time

I doubt the tape is the issue. Bees seal my hives air tight with propolis and I don't have a mold issue with proper ventilation. If I mess with the boxes late in the season, I seal them with...

Re: Problem with oxalic acid wand

What JP said is your first step with a fully charged battery. If it gets hot but doesn't vaporize, I suspect your OA has too much moisture. Last thing I would suspect is the wand, given its age.
  16. Re: Orange pollen in Early october, Northeast US?

I posted a nearly identical question earlier. Check it out. Michael Palmer thinks is Aster. J

Re: What Pollen Are They Gathering Now In NE?

Thanks Michael. All I am seeing here is blue aster which they don't seem to touch, at least around my property. Time to take a walk and see what I can see. J

Re: What Pollen Are They Gathering Now In NE?

I seem to remember a color chart for pollen. Can't find it on pollen.com. Anyone know where it is? No dandy's here and no hawkweed that I can see. I'm thinking its something growing in the woods...

Re: What Pollen Are They Gathering Now In NE?

Thanks guys. Forgot about pollen.com. Wish they posted better pics and the color of the pollen. Only thing listed that is a possibility is ragweed, but I am doubting it. Is it bright yellow? J

What Pollen Are They Gathering Now In NE?

My bees are bringing in a lot of yellow pollen the past few days. It looks similar to goldenrod, but that has died off. I suppose its possible there is a patch somewhere but I do not see any driving...

Re: Cost of 3# package of bees in 1949

Interesting. In today's dollars, $3.50 in 1949 equals $36.49. So the price of a 3lb package has sure outpaced inflation. J

    BT On Honey Frames

Planning on spraying BT on my comb today for winter storage. In the past, I have only sprayed brood comb. I would like to do the honey combs too because I do not have enough space in my freezer this...

Re: Wax moth prevention in storing

I got mine yesterday and it is 2 years old! The seller represents that it is fresh stock shipped directly from Valent. Do not buy from this liar, cheat and fraud: https://www.ebay.com/itm/264476608439
