    Re: Winter losses for 2016-17

Stores were good going in as I took no honey this year and also added frames of honey from other hives I had combined. Stores still looked good from what I could tell. I did not take the hives apart...

    Re: Winter losses for 2016-17

Checked mine today. Went into winter with 19, down to 7 right now. I don't get what I am doing wrong. Treated them with Api guard in August, and OAV in September. I had the same issue last year also...

    Re: Recent Maxant Experience

I guess your a skeptic, but Maxant is not perfect. There is nothing more to the story until my order actually arrives.

    Re: Recent Maxant Experience

Wish I could say the same. I ordered $6000 in equipment from them in the middle of June. They said they were 3 weeks out which was perfect as I was going on vacation in 4 weeks. Well fast forward to...

Re: Let's talk about lega vaporizer unit

I made a home made vaporizer out of some copper pipe and it worked so so. I bought the Lega and have been using it for about 2 months. It works well, but the plastic melted and the blow back was bad....

    Re: Upper or lower enterance?

Prevailing winds are from the SW. The west entrance faces a fence which is only 3 feet away. The fence is 6.5' tall and solid so no wind blows into the entrance.

    Re: Upper or lower enterance?

I use top and bottom. All my hives use both entrances. The top faces east and is the first to be used in the morning. The bottom entrances face west towards a fence and are about an hour behind in...

    Re: Hello from Pocatello

Welcome from Blackfoot. With the smoker, I use burlap which you can get at Cal Ranch for cheap, 50 cents a bag. Cut it into strips, pack the bottom, light the burlap, let it burn a bit then add wood...

    Re: New queen introduction question

I just had the same issue. Ordered a few Russian queens to start some new hives. I pulled 3 frames of bees, 1 honey and 1 of pollen and placed in a new hive body. This was around 7 in the morning. ...

Re: Lets talk about Long Lang Hives

    Re: strapping hives down

I would strap them down no matter what. You never know when your might get a freak storm. Straps are cheap insurance and great piece of mind.
