Re: Does dong a bunch of walk away Nuc splits count as queen rearing?

Your lucky, or there's a sorry beekeeper a mile away:) I never caught a thing till I put drawn comb in a box, but only in my 2nd year, I never even saw a scout bee without it.

Re: Does dong a bunch of walk away Nuc splits count as queen rearing?

You'll never catch bees without drawn comb/ propolis, wax.
  8. Re: Does dong a bunch of walk away Nuc splits count as queen rearing?

Now that's the way to do it, can you just throw her back in there without reintroducing her? and will it stop the swarm impulse?
  9. Re: Does dong a bunch of walk away Nuc splits count as queen rearing?

That would be crazy using a 2 frame to do it all,I was thinking the way I've been doing it was right, those 2 framers are awesome if you keep a robbing screen on them.
  10. Re: Does dong a bunch of walk away Nuc splits count as queen rearing?

I pull the queen and a couple of frames of brood to create a swarm effect, I put her in a nuc to start over. There's a whole hive full of resources to make a new queen out of countless options. after...

Re: Buying nucs is hit or miss

Makes sense, when I opened it up, I expected a 1000 bees to rush out, I saw maybe 5 and they just stayed there, I saw a few doing orientation flights later on, not many.

    Thanks, I still...

    Re: Selling five frame Nucs.

I would probably sell them on Craigslist, just get a box and sell them for $150-$180 or what everyone else is selling it for around you.

    Re: scouts at a trap

I've had tons of scouts on all of my traps, then they disappear, they have 10 places in mind I heard, and pick the one they all decide on.

Re: Buying nucs is hit or miss

it was $160, it's laid up pretty well, but the brood is spotty, the combs are old and black, one has paint all over the comb, even saw a bee with paint on it. I got it free, but it's still a crap nuc...

Buying nucs is hit or miss

I got a nuc as a present, it's not hitting on much, it's hard to tell if a nuc is any good till you get it home. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_G791lI42PE

What do ya'll think? I think it's on...
  17. Re: Does dong a bunch of walk away Nuc splits count as queen rearing?

with 2 framers and walk away split cells, I moved the queen to a nuc with a few frames, then went back and moved the cells the big hive made.
  18. Re: Does dong a bunch of walk away Nuc splits count as queen rearing?

I made 10 queens this way, in March.
  19. Re: My first time loading up a queen cage- and a mishap marking a queen by hand

She never laid again, had to dispatch her, I've been trying all kinds of queen catchers and such, the easiest way is to just grab them and hold them still on the frame, and dot them.

    Re: Another Newbee

    Welcome
  21. Re: I dont think my new queen was accepted

I'd be worried that a virgin queen would return, maybe move the whole hive if you do.
  22. Re: Neighbor contesting our beekeeping permit - advice for the upcoming hearing?

In North Carolina state law prohibits cities and counties from enforcing any ordinance or resolution that prohibits people from owning or operating five or fewer bee hives. check your state laws.
  23. Re: WTF are these larvae on my bottom board?!

kill them, they are trying to make their way to the ground to pupate, you can put rock salt or wood ashes under the hives, that dries them out.
  24. Re: Allergic after 6 years of beekeeping. HELP

Did you wear a suit every time you worked bees? I heard of this happening, I let them sting me, I just wear a veil, welcome to BeeSource.
  25. Re: Found a capped queen cell and there is cold weather on the way. What now?

I put a super of comb in the middle of the brood boxes and the bees turned mean, and made cells in the top half, see my video " A good hive gone bad"
I put that cell in a mating nuc, but the bees...
