Re: Neighbor has bees in her open garage

Dang, guys. You really have me wondering now. I'll go look again, but I've got lots of experience with HBs. I'd be shocked if they aren't, but on the other hand I was trying to keep 6 feet between me...

Neighbor has bees in her open garage

I live in a subdivision and have a couple of my hives in my back yard.

Today, a neighbor came over and asked me to come take a look at some bees at his house across the street. The garage door was...

    Re: Buckets or Jars?

We sometimes get condensation. We just wipe it off. Maybe crack the lid a bit.
Try stirring your honey a bit and mixing the crystallized with the un. Also, heat rises. Is your blanket as low as you...

    Re: 18% ABV Sweet mead

My attempt at Mead was such a disaster that I'm REALLY hesitant to try again. This thread is heartening though.

    Re: Buckets or Jars?

We have lots of 5 gallon buckets with honey in them. They store just fine.
If it crystallizes, we use a bucket blanket heater that works oh so nice!

Re: Mouse invades hive. Watch it happen!

And THAT is the gem of the day that I will certainly put into use!

    Brilliant!
  8. Re: How much honey could one expect from one hive? Spring

Would that really make such a huge difference in your bees honey production? I know there are limiting factors... but I dunno

    Re: A question about feeding

    Julie -
1/2 gallon of honey really isn't all that much. It lasts forever.
I'm thinking you crush and strained some honey that was in some old brood comb or something (hense the hesitation to eat...

    Re: A question about feeding

I don't remember exactly when I tried it, but it only makes sense that I sampled it immediately to test it out. I know that it never made it into a bottle!

I'm following your endeavor hoping that...

    Re: A question about feeding

    I've made wine.
    I've made whiskey.
    I've made beer.
When I had some extra "play" honey, I made mead..... it was the most disgusting thing ever and I pitched it and have zero inclination to try...

    Re: Modified Hive

I have no use for an internal camera.
I'm not sure how you plan on swiping the capped honey and storing it elsewhere in the hive, but maybe your camera idea is to help know when to activate the...

    Tilting the telescoping cover

I always rest my telescoping cover on top of the inner cover so that it slants backwards.
Someone told me to do it during the Winter so any moisture collects and runs to the back of the hive before...
  21. Re: Will bees pull out wax in NE Tennessee in August if I feed them?

Try putting on an empty shallow (no frames) or even pull a few frames and leave a void. They'll draw comb! :)

Place Deadout super on top during Dearth?

I just discovered a deadout super that I left in one of the freezers.
Until the Goldenrod hits, is there any reason I shouldn't hit it with a heat gun and then place it on top of the hive for a few...

Re: Second deep super full of honey

    Thanks for the input.

rwlaw - If I pull the frames, they'll surely fill the new ones with goldenrod. By doing so, it will keep em busy and then fall right into Gumpy's scenerio.

    Sounds like...

Second deep super full of honey

I split a strong hive and all went well. Installed a second deep super on July 19. The bees never seemed to accept it for brood and kept filling it with honey stores. Well, it's full now and I just...
