    Re: 2017 YTD Sting Count

I think I got 3 stings all year. I suit up every time. I look like I got in a bar fight when I get stung and it makes life miserable for about a week for me. Well worth it to Michelin man up for...

Re: Here's How I Winterize My Hives

That was my first thought as well. It's a good wintering strategy none-the-less.

Re: Here's How I Winterize My Hives

Great presentation. Very similar to what I'm doing this year. No screened bottom boards for me though.

Re: 15 hives - sryup feeding woes

I'm feeding 11 hives and I don't feel 2:1 is much work at all.

    What was the question?

Re: What is cold for you and your region?

About the same here, we get lots of wind also. -20f can turn into -60f windchill at the drop of a hat. We can stay well below zero for weeks on end.

    Re: I've got SHB!!!

I put the swifter pads in the other day. I noticed shb larvae/worms in my pollen patties. Was it the patties that attracted them in the first place?

And yes there were more in my weaker hives...

    I've got SHB!!!

I went to refill my feeders today and I've got SHB running amuck in over half my hives. Hives still look strong and have 2 deeps full going into winter.

I want those buggers out of my hives...

Re: Can't find a single mite

If you really have NO mites, then there is no reason to treat. But I find it very hard to believe that you have ZERO mites!

    Re: Neighbor kids getting stung

Turn the tables on them! Tell them to take care of their yellow jackets that are messing with your honey bees.

    Re: Uncapping methods

What an honor! I got a reply from the master himself! The uncapping plane is only slightly more expensive than the uncapping knife. Maybe ill have to give the plane a go from the start!

    Re: Uncapping methods

I had thought about using the electric fillet knife, But I didn't have a set of blades that hadn't been through a few dozen walleyes and didn't want to risk having fishy honey.
