  1. Re: What to do with all the supers full of sugar syrup

ditto JW. Also, I don't like to harvest honey off a hive that syrup on them because the bees can and do move the sugar around. When I harvest honey, I want it to be pure honey, not adulterated.
  2. Re: Florida beekeeper claims someone poisoned, killed nearly 7 million of his honeybe

One of our local guys suspects the same thing, but he is a small scale hobbyist. I suspect it happens more than we know.

Re: 2018/19 Journal NW Florida Gulf Coast

That is great that the nuc has a queen. Dragon flies are beautiful, but I now feel a sense of disappointment when seeing them and knowing queen rearing is at an end.

Re: 2018/19 Journal NW Florida Gulf Coast

At this point of the year, I suspect the dragonflies are snacking on mating queens down here. I had thought I got many of the splits in early enough, but I no longer think that. Looks like May will...

Re: 2018/19 Journal NW Florida Gulf Coast

It looks like my late June-July splits are all failing to return mated queens. I'm about to give up and start recombining.

    Re: Honey Tank Score!

Are you referring to the stainless steel pot? If so, it doesn't look like it can be sealed air-tight, which could cause problems with the humidity level of the honey and with contaminants.

Re: Mated queen taking 4 weeks to lay?

Although this question doesn't require location, you may want to add it to your information and be a bit more specific, such as state. There are many East Bay areas in the country. ;)

Re: Small Hive Beetle Grease Experiences

Has there been a study on how much is tracked into the honey? Even with honey supers off, there would be residue and the possibility of the bees moving honey into the supers later on. How long does...

    brood break and mites management

I just went through a hive to pull the queen as a walk away split to help create a brood break in the main hive. At the start of summer, about 2 months ago we noticed the hive's population dropped. ...

    Re: Richinbama 2018 beekeeping quest

Rich, have you tried putting a vent on the top box? It has helped mine a lot. I made them from 2x4s cut into 3/4" strips. The additional highth doesn't seem to cause an issue. Sorry to hear about...

    Re: Add medium brood box?

Not sure why someone would say you have to remove it weekly. I have two transition boxes that are almost all mediums with the bottoms drawn to deeps and have been all year. Once the remaining deeps...

    Re: Hive smell

There are therapies that involve inhailing the hive air. In some places, people pay to sleep on a cot that is built above a hive. The hive vents into the small room.

    Re: OAV and honey supers

I'd take them off. Leaving them on with a barrier will require airing out the brood area before putting the supers back on. Simply pulling a barrier out of the way without ensuring the gas has...

Food for future thought, I run all mediums to eliminate problems associated with different sized equipment. After some trials, I'm settling on two mediums for the brood area. I hear there are beeks...

If you are still on a flow and the honey super is full, have they started backfilling the brood box? Queen cell usually refers to a capped cup. Was it an actual queen cell or just a cup? If a cup,...

Harvested a few more boxes today. We seem to be averaging 23# per box. On the low side, but I'll take it. How much are you all averaging per box?

Re: I just killed both my queens, am I crazy?

Many people replace their queens annually. It is a personal choice. Personally, I would not have do it quite the same way, but to each their own. There are several brood break methods that don't...
