    Re: MAQS failure

uggg, somewhere I lost a date in the first post. I did one strip on september 22, 2 on October 6, and 2 on october 13.

I agree that I did not follow the instruction correctly by placing 2...

    Re: MAQS failure

This is the daily high for the airport that is close to me. It was not consistently below 85 until mid September. This year the entire season (except first snow/hard frost) has been offset about 3...

Re: Cost of package in 1959

The inflation (minus shipping) actually is not to far off. A 3 lb package is about 130 around here if you pick it up, so a 2 lb package would be about 100 (assume 30 for the queen and 33/lb of bees)

    Re: MAQS failure

I placed the strips across the top of the bars with the long orientation of the strip perpendicular to the bars. I placed them in/above the brood chamber for all except for the last treatment on...

    Re: MAQS failure

I wish this was the case but I know it is not. When I did a sugar roll on October 13 I dissolved the sugar in water then poured it thru a paper towel to make it easier to count. Several of the...

    Re: First Frost Thread.

first deep freeze last night/today. It was 70 yesterday and 30 today, and is supposed to get to about 15 tonight. We have had a few nights in the low 30's in the last 2 weeks, but I think this is...

Re: Strange Comb Honey Wax Color

Do you have a top entrance near the super that that comb came out of?

It could be brood comb or the bees may have walked over the comb with dirty legs and left the dirt behind on the wax. I...

    Re: Modified Hive

Does anyone on here have a viewing window on the side of thier hive? I sort of suspect that the bees would cover the camera with burr comb if you leave enough space in front of it to get a picture...

    Re: BetterComb Experience, Anyone?

I would also send the pictures of them to betterbee. If they know they have a potential problem they are more likely to fix it then if they do not know about it.

Sticky: Re: Today in the Apiary

not in my apairy, but I found out I could get my garage freezer to -30F freezing frames. I removed an air duct to fit a box in, and apparently it really messed up the control of the freezer.

    Re: Plastic Drone Foundation Sheets

I already have a hodgepodge of frames in my hives. I have a mix of foundation, foundation less, wood frames, and plastic frames. I had some foundationless frames in my hives this year that the bees...

I measured a random sample of this years honey from one of 2 hives that filled suppers last night. This honey took forever to extract.

Does anyone know of a source of plastic drone foundation sheets? I have found lots of drone frames, but not any plastic foundation sheets. The plastic frames I have seem much more flimsy than the...

    Re: Beekeeping Technique Question

If it is working for you I would stick with it. The one factor that I think you need to keep an eye on is neighbors that bring in bees that may have mites or other problems.

    Re: Cleaning extracted frames

I do similar to Tim, but I place one super at a time out with a full sheet baking pan under it. The baking pan catches all of the wax that the bees remove.

If you do this make sure the supers...
  24. Re: not prepared / first cut-out, what can increase my chances?

    A few thoughts,

Did you flip the comb usidown when you rubber banded it into the frames? It sort of looks like this, and that will not work because the bees build it at an angle to keep the honey...
  25. Re: Turning a Neglected Pasture into a Bee Yard?

I have my bees (atleast as far as I know) in all of the trees and plants in my yard when they bloom so I this isn't true for me. The closest flowering tree (large ornamental apple) is about 15 feet...
