    Re: Beekeeping Trailer

Nice work on your trailer. You might regret those taller benches though, when you start stacking up supers.

    Here's mine.
Had a neighbor fabricate the cage to keep out bears & critters.

Re: Plastic-backed foundation vs. plastic frames

Yup, why not have the best of both worlds? I love these frames. Be sure to alternate with frames with full sheets of foundation when they are all new.

    Re: Incubator selection

I was lucky enough to pick up a Thermo Scientific incubator at a local auction.

Re: 2018 journal NW Florida Gulf Coast

I just didn't want folks to use a screen by accident.

You were close. I use screened inner covers, but the block goes below.

Re: WHERE are the real treatment free beekeepers?

I have not read this thread completely yet, but wanted to respond to this:

Actually, that is not correct. Not sure why you think I do that?

I do cut foundation in half and insert half a...

Re: 2018 OAV treatment on Observation hive

For the large hives I don't measure, I fill the cap with as much as it can hold and leave it in place until I see a satisfactory vapor escapement from the entrances and cracks. That allows for...

Re: 2018 OAV treatment on Observation hive

I drilled a 3/8 hole on the side for the ProVap. Entrances are around the front side.

Re: 2018 OAV treatment on Observation hive

I agree, they seem to suck at grooming and don't see the dead mite as a threat. I'd like to snatch one up (thorax & attached mite) and put it under my microscope. I'd like to see why it's still...

    ( see video link above)

Using the ProVap 110, you can see the initial burst of Oxalic Acid, a slight delay as the unit drops in temp, then a...

Re: WHEN to mark a new queen.

I think you just answered your own question. Gluing disks on with super glue will net the same effect of immediate balling, when using Tight Bond ll wood glue to glue on disks has no issues with...

Re: No Brood Leaving the Winter Shed This Year

    WOW!

I saw the video of your bees going to town on the dry Ultra bee. No lacking for appetite, that's for sure.

My guess is your broodless state may be related to day length.

    As...
  15. Re: Solar minimum phase the reason for the cold spring weather 2017 & 2018?

With all my whining about the cold weather and concern for my bees, I FINALLY got a decent day today to pop a few lids and try to get some feed into them. (Still in the 40's, but no biting wind and...
  16. Re: Solar minimum phase the reason for the cold spring weather 2017 & 2018?

I'm getting real busy now, but next winter I'll be doing some research for sure. Inquiring minds want to know.

  18. Re: Solar minimum phase the reason for the cold spring weather 2017 & 2018?

Digital photos work great for me for timeline records. They are all time date marked and easy to refer to. The images are sometimes shocking and show a lot of detail I would forget with written...

    Re: Queen cell frame spacing??

I buy the JZBZ bars and use a screw through the side bars to hold each end. With a screw, you can turn the bar if you wish to get better access to the cells should they be difficult to remove and you...

Indeed, a month late, but fantastic.
  21. Re: Solar minimum phase the reason for the cold spring weather 2017 & 2018?

Wow, just unreal. Long range Forecast for mid April. "Major snowstorm to evolve into blizzard"

No transition into summer this year. Going to go from a refrigerator to 80 overnight.
    I feel sorry...
  22. Re: Is there a trick to introducing a virgin queen

With that time line I'd say their self made virgin queen was out on a mating flight and the mating nuc knows it's not queenless, although the queen was not in the hive when you were looking.

  23. Solar minimum phase the reason for the cold spring weather 2017 & 2018?

After a facebook poster on my AG page mentioned Solar Minimums for the potential cause of the cool weather, I kicked myself for not having thought of it myself.:pinch:

    Rather than assuming the...
