  1. Re: The right number of hives to keep it fun

I think a lot has to do with attitude. As someone who was born having fun, fun is easy for me. But for others?

This summer we had a young man come work here. He had been working for a commercial...

    Re: Taste of Goldenrod Honey

This year was a good Goldenrod here in the Champlain valley. Had a double nuc box where one nuc was a story shorter than the other. So there was an empty nuc box on the inner cover to keep the top...

Please Help the Kids in Oaxaca

I'll be closing this GoFundMe next week. I'll be traveling to Mexico on 11/14 for a speaking tour of Xochimilco and Oaxaca. I will be taking a debit card for the children at the escuela secondaria...
  5. Re: Down with Double Deeps! Fess up, you alternative hive-style followers!!!!

I do understand that. Just wondering about the "evil" bit.
  6. Re: Down with Double Deeps! Fess up, you alternative hive-style followers!!!!

Wasn't it Walt Wright who wrote something about the Evils of the Double Deep? Or something like that. I've used double deeps for 45 years. In fact my standard brood nest id two deeps and a medium....
  7. Re: weird thing,.. curious if there's an explanation

    Re: Need electric fence info

You can buy a small solar panel and attach it to the battery. Wellscroft sells them for about $40
  9. Re: Orange pollen in Early october, Northeast US?

Goldenrod is orange, too. You're in WI and there must be a good goldenrod pollen flow in August/September. Yes?
  10. Re: Orange pollen in Early october, Northeast US?

In the other thread you said yellow. Orange is goldenrod. There are always a few late bloomers. Might have been mowed or otherwise distressed. We're seeing a bit of orange too.
  11. Re: What Pollen Are They Gathering Now In NE?

Bees still working aster here...yellow pollen
  12. Re: This is getting ridiculous (Varroa and OAV treatment)

So what does this say about "Darwinian Beekeeping"?
  13. Re: Taped seams created moisture buildup- hopefully removed it in time

Put the foam on the inner cover, not the outer cover

    Re: Honey Color by Flower...

Goldenrod is usually Extra Light Amber. It's not a dark honey. I tested some GR this year. Was in a nuc from comb the bees built in an empty box above the inner cover. Built right on the strongest...

    Re: Weighing Beehives-Winter Weight

Top feeders woks well...in warm weather. Once the weather turns cold, bees won't leave the cluster to work in the feeder.

Then again, I have too many colonies and don't want to buy/make hundreds...
  23. Re: Kirk Webster - 20 Years of Commercial Beekeeping Without Treatments of Any Kind

I listened to his presentation at Apimondia. I respect his work and wouldn't say anything against him, personally. But, I do have issues with what he says...rather, what he doesn't say. He makes it...

    Re: nuc abscond question

Did you add a box of foundation on top of a single story nuc? That often fails. Overhead foundation isn't always seen as expansion space. Next time, move a frame of brood up with the foundation.
