    Re: Cherry Blossom Honey

To be varietal it is supposed to be at least 51%, that would take at least a couple acres and good timing.
  4. Re: How many OAV treatments in winter can they tolerate?

    I am with JW.
Your 4% reduction in brood is not correct without knowing what the variability was hive to hive. The researchers did the statistics and stated there was no difference. Statistically...

The lab producing it seems to be a lab company that does vet chemicals and is based in South Korea. Don't know who they are working with.

  11. Re: Bee with torso up stinger out like a scorpion?

I agree with Greg. The stinger extended is not nasonov. If you look closely sometimes you will see a tiny drop of venom at the tip of the stinger.

    Re: Band heater vaporizer.

It works from top down, key is to have some space for the vapors to disapate as they cool and condense back to the small crystals that we see as the "cloud". I have done some nucs from the top with...

    Re: Band heater vaporizer.

OAV from under the screen is not a good idea. The metal screen acts as a heat sink and the OA recrystalizes on it instead of going up into the hive. It is one of the reasons that some folks have...

Re: Question on Queen and drone genetics

The individual drone sperm is not compartmentalized in the spermatheca. So it is more likely to be external conditions affecting their variable temperament during the seasons.

JConnolly you may want to review the varroa life cycle.
You are correct that formic acid forms a true vapor which can penetrate the porous brood capping to kill mites in the capped brood.

    Re: Oxylic acid schedule

Looks like a wand design issue. Too much mass for the heat source and not good distribution.
I like the Varrox. More expensive but really works well.
  25. Re: OA vaporization is probably safe with honey supers - here's my calculations

    Elmer
You are correct that you can lower moisture in honey that is not fully capped by "using a box fan to blow air through the supers".
You should not have to lower moisture on fully capped honey.
