I have a seek handheld thermal imager, many uses, I have snapped my hives, you can see if there are bees and where they are in the box, but no real secret information that you could not see by...

    caught swarm = package bees?

I am thinking of the swarm I recently caught as quite similar to a 3 lb package of bees? It is prime bee time here with trees, clover and alfalfa in bloom, warm nights, so they should be able to take...

Re: Caught a swarm, here's what I did

    Burns375,

I would have liked to tape the bee hole after dark, and moved the swarm trap/new upper deep. The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.... with the sky turning grey and not...

    Caught a swarm, here's what I did

Who doesn't like the idea of free bees?

I had a tree stand on the edge of the woods on my farm, I put a 10 frame box with a telescoping cover and a solid bottom in the stand this spring. I put 4...

I learn something new all the time, Thanks!
  7. Re: Making Mason Jar feeders with a .22lr. Where can we purchase the brass inserts?

What is the advantage over just taking the lids and punching 20 holes in them with an ice pick or small nail? Mine work well and probably provide more opportunities for multiple bees to feed at once....

Christo, you will not believe the horror I just heard!

I was talking to someone who calls themselves a beekeeper an they told me that they pump acid vapor into their hive to kill some of god's...
  9. Drone brood above excluder, just recently, guessing a laying worker?

I have an unusual (for me) issue that just started.

I have a hive booming with bees. It consists of two deep 10 frame boxes for brood, a wood frame metal excluder above those boxes that seemed to...
  10. Re: Looking for a particular kind of frame holder

I have 3D printed some frame hangers, because I have a 3d printer and bees I want to combine hobbies.

I would say, the ones I created just are not that handy. I occasionally use them, but mostly...

Re: Mite count? photo of one on bee. Sometimes, when you look, you see

If there are enough (too many) you can see them hanging on your bees.

I think if you are consciously looking for them, they are easier to see.

I am attaching a photo of a mite on a bee in...

    Re: extracting on shares

I stand corrected if there is no risk of getting infected by sharing frame handling equipment. I didn't read about any specific case of this happening, only the pathology of the infection.

    It...

When to start digging into a swarm trap

I am in central Minnesota, so our swarm season is just about to start. I have 6 traps out. They are standard deep boxes with larger holes near the bottom and 3 frames of old comb in them. Most are...

  17. Robbing the dead, sentenced to serve? Trapping robbers and putting them to work?

I have a dead out double deep hive from this winter that I cleaned out to make ready for more bees when I catch a swarm. The bees got too wet and repeated warm and bitter temps this spring was more...

Re: what to plant on 1/6 acre?

Taste buckwheat honey before you plant it. It is not your mom's honey! Some like it, many will not.

    Re: inverted glass jar feeder

This type of feeder works by causing a partial vacuum or lower pressure in the jar when it is inverted, that keeps the syrup from running out until a bee sucks on it.

It is like when you dip a...
  21. Re: 3D printed beekeeping equipment tinkering

The hex queen cup has a peg on the back and presses into the frame. I also did jar feeders and I am attaching a .jpeg of the landing board that I leave on if the pollen trap is off.

    I also...
