Re: Should I go with Saskatraz packages

Roland, I got them from a Bee Club Queen distribution program. I believe the NWC came form Ohio but I am still trying to identify the breeder. I want a couple more too.
  2. Re: Fed water droplets/ landing board- they went nuts

I have been running various configurations of insulation levels with no top vent. My objective is to get a feeling / gain knowledge about hive temperature and humidity stability and consumption...
  3. Re: Fed water droplets/ landing board- they went nuts

Location, location, location! It really impacts beekeeping but they seem to be able to adapt. You seem to be really dry as opposed to my very humid climate on the eastern seaboard. I have made...

    Poll: Re: Engineering Project

Jimbo3: Poor grammar skills and ignoring it is not smart. I had to get a dictionary and learn but I cheated - viewgraphs with few words, talk and lots of facts. It's amazing how a spelling error...

Re: Should I go with Saskatraz packages

My best honey success has been re-queening a hive with a mated Saskatraz queen. My best hive Varroa resistance via re-queening has come from a New World Carniolan - very apparent. I suggest you use...

JWPalmer: When does your flow start and stop typically? I am significantly North of you. I have a hive that nailed the Spring, Summer and Fall flow last year. This hive started significant brood...

Cloverdale: Just for fun I quote you "Being a Conservative, who agrees with the Second Amendment, etc." is a real subject for discussion. What do you agree with? The first SCOTUS decision which...

Jim, Not having any "Rs" in my pronunciations leaves me wide open to suspicion. Ever hear of RHODE ISLAND AND PROVIDENCE PLANTATIONS? Could be off the coast somewhere.

Re: What causes Honey to cystallize?

    From a New Zeland site:

    Crystallization
The two major sugars in honey (glucose and fructose) are the main factor in determining the tendency for a honey to crystallize. Water content also plays a...
  11. Re: So, what did you scrounge today? Braggin encouraged

I took my GE horizontal, high speed spin Washing Machine apart a few years ago. I had salvage parts and wanted to find out why it failed so early -- P*&^ - Poor "spider" fatigue design.

    To...

  13. Re: Is it important to heat frames before extraction?

Fuzz, Solar heating? I assume no electrics but propane also? I heat a room to 80-90F and use a dehumidifier as I extract in cooler fall weather. It gets my frames really dry, so to speak.

GregV - quoting you "However, the cluster continiously looses the heat - by the laws of physics (just like I loose heat or you loose heat in cool/cold room).
Thereby the bee cluster still heats the...

Be careful what you wish for.......as you apparently are not part of the poor class. You also have to ask yourself what "poor" really means. You also should be aware of the fiat system. It saved...

    Re: Mountain camp vs. honey

JWPalmer ( long but helps me collect my thoughts): It has been a warm winter and a cold spell has arrived today. I weighed my hives, one side at a time, summed and corrected for built-in weighting...
  17. Re: Respirator suggestion to use with Easy Vap

I am curious with "OSHA finally mandated ". I dug into the requirements specified by the label approved by the EPA on OA containers. It specified something called a half face mask without...

    Re: Global Warming

Using over 60 and older warriors certainly would seem to be able slow up the process of going to war - recent events do not suggest that is true. The 60's children, not just Flower Children, put an...
  19. Re: So, what did you scrounge today? Braggin encouraged

I finally managed to use the excess memory foam I bought years ago. It became a porous foam gasket between my 5-sided slip-on insulating box and a lip screwed into my bottom board. I can see the...

    Re: Beekeeping and property taxes

    :D Three observations :
    #1 - I LOVE to pay taxes.
#2 - Know the rules before you play.
#3 - NY is one of the neatest states I have visited, they even have good road signs.
#4 - If you do not...
