Re: Heading Pads for winter warmth - yea or nay?

Original thinking was it would be good to put it at the bottom because heat rises and this would help heat the entire hive and honey stores, hadn't thought of the dead bees falling on it, good point!...

Heading Pads for winter warmth - yea or nay?

Anyone ever put a heating pad in the bottom of their hive for the winter to keep the bees warm? May be a silly idea, or very dangerous. Thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Re: Yellow Jackets & Onslaught

We just learned about these yellow jacket traps at our beekeepers meeting this week. We put one up in front of our hive and in less than 2 minutes there were five YJ inside it. It's the best...

    Re: Teaser queen

Would you please define "tbh" and "QC" for us who are not familiar with those abbreviations?

    Thanks!
  9. Re: What's a fair price for a frame of brood and bees?

Thanks for the tips everyone! Our hive was weak because it swarmed twice, and so we tried to rebuild the few remaining bees. It was doing okay and then got robbed which wiped it out.

    I used to...
  10. Re: New Nucs; with all the dandilions, should we still feed?

    Thanks!

Will get a friction feeder for them. I think our first frost is usually in Oct/Nov. They are acting much happier now that they are in their new hives and out of the nucs!

Re: Moved bees into hive, can't find entrance?

    Hi Jorre,

We moved a nuc of bees into their permanent hive yesterday, went smooth as silk! Are you sure the queen was moved into the hive? I cant see the small box the bees came from in your...
  12. New Nucs; with all the dandilions, should we still feed?

    Hi All,

We are starting over and just got two nucs, moved one of them into a deep this morning. We live out in the country (near Eugene, Oregon) and have horse fields all around us full of...

:s Apologizes, I posted this in the wrong board and don't see a way to delete or move it. Sorry!!!

Re: Plastic inner lid - bad idea?

I never would have thought of bugs getting in those channels! What do you think about sealing the channels with something like caulking?

Plastic inner lid - bad idea?

Anybody ever try using plastic campaign signs to make their inner lid with? I'm worried it will hold too much moisture in the hive. Thoughts?

    Thanks!

  19. What's a fair price for a frame of brood and bees?

My hive is very weak but I only have the one hive.

Anybody know what a fair price to pay for a medium sized frame of emerging brood with nurse bees would be?

    Thanks.

Re: Hive shrinking instead of growing?

I wouldn't think so, you need the nurses there to take care of the new frame of brood you're adding. I'm needing to do the same thing, but I only have one hive.

Anybody know what a fair price...
