Re: OAV, putting the risk in perspective

Grainger has a sale on OG / acid gas canisters for Honeywell North respirators for $11.70 a pair.
    I bought 8 pair.
Seems like my lungs are worth at least that much.

    Re: Global Warming

    Re: A Changing Landscape

Respectfully; you have WAY more to learn than previously indicated.
  5. Re: This is getting ridiculous (Varroa and OAV treatment)

    Well,,,,yes and no.
If you are in trouble with a heavy mite infestation; yes.
If you have a moderate mite infestation or less, vaporizing weekly, continuously throughout the robbing season seems to...
  6. Re: Advice for sealing concrete floor extraction room

We sealed our floor with Rustoleum EpoxyShield about 6 years ago and are very happy with it.
The video lays it out very well with one glaring error:
You will NEVER get good preparation with that...

    Re: Global Warming

If you want an eye-opener, buy a hummingbird feeder and place it right outside your kitchen window.
Doesn't watching sweet little hummingbirds at your feeder sound peaceful?
    Guess again!
    ALL THEY...

    Re: Global Warming

I'm in favor of getting off of the "Denier" or "Believer" kick and going back to the simple message of cutting pollution.
Back in the 1970s Oregon instituted the "bottle bill" that mandated a 5 cent...

    Re: Global Warming

Using terms such as "deniers" or"believers" and then citing science is confusing.
Is "global warming" a belief system or scientific theory?

Sticky: Re: Successful Queen Introduction tips.

There's 1000 ways to cook a pot of soup and most of them taste good to somebody.
    Here's a couple of ideas:
So, you're going to buy a couple of packages with queens and buy a couple of preferred...

    NO.
BUT, if I did, it would qualify as an activity that I identified in the original post:

Sticky: Re: Successful Queen Introduction tips.

I don't want to contradict a fellow beekeepers advise or experience but here's mine:
Several years ago I had the memorable (ugly) experience of requeening a bunch of hybrids that were highly...

Re: Best way to cull a dying hive?

Roll a wheelbarrow next to the hive.
Add about of 4" of soapy water.
Shake the bees off of the frames into the soapy water.
store the hive in a cool dry place until spring.
    Dump the wheelbarrow...

Re: Purchased Queen Never Laid An Egg

    On the other hand:
We buy box after box of queens, introduce them properly and have very, very few problems.
All queen producers are not the same.
Their genetics aren't the same, their employees...

  18. Re: Why do Queen Bee prices not fluctuate based on seasonal demand?

    I appreciate the free market.
If the price is too high sales will suffer.
There are always other vendors that buyers can chose from.
    But what about quality?
And what about your position of...

  20. Re: Business ethics question. Am I in the wrong?

I am so very glad to see discussion of "Beekeeper Ethics" taking place.

Re: Commercial - Swarm Prevention Methods

This is similar to my situation.
For those of us that take bees into almonds; we manage for strong hives early in the season.
Without knocking them back prior to the flow, they would all swarm....

Re: Commercial - Swarm Prevention Methods

Is there really such a thing as "swarm prevention"?
We shake packages, pull nucs, make hard divides.
Is that "swarm prevention" or are we just swarming for them, but in a controlled fashion?
