    Re: Picked up Maxant 3100P

Very good purchase. I Think I paid $900-$1,000 for mine new. I love it and would have paid more.

Just bought a Maxant honey bottler. Can't wait to try it out.

Re: New package swarmed, I think

I just installed 3 packages and had half of the bees from one package drift to other hives I had in the apiary. Of course I didn't know it at the time.

When I first went in to check them I noticed...

    Re: Wax dipping questions

The supplier I buy my dipped hives from charges me $1.50 per box. That's at dealer cost. Retail is about $3-$4.

    Re: Rolled the dice today

I just put on the third round of sugar bricks and winter patties yesterday. They have pollen available in my area but very little if any nectar.

Some already are starting their burr comb...

    Re: Hive feeders

I used wooden hive top feeders for years. The ones with the floats in them that are supposed to stop bees from drowning.

They don't work so I ended up putting plastic screen on top of the floats...

    Re: Shipping

Yea, that's a little crazy. At least the other big e-tailers make us think we are getting free shipping by building the price of shipping into each item....

Re: Too early for an Ohio trap-out or cut-out?

I agree with waiting until around April to do the cut out. I surmise we still have a cold spell coming in Ohio, so this would make feeding them hard.

I have a cutout waiting for me since late last...
  13. Re: New assortment of cheap extractors on market.

You have to bee an informed beekeeper and shopper. There are reputable USA sellers of China made extractors that will stand behind their products.

I happen to have dealt with a few.

    These...

    Re: Check your hives

Thanks for sharing the email. I am going to try to get set up to receive future ones. It is information most bee keepers are aware of but a friendly warning
or heads up is always nice.

    Re: Wired wax Foundation

I would wait as well. Frozen brittle foundation in the hands of people who throw boxes for a living, spells disaster.

Re: Using Pocket screw joinery for boxes

Re: What a sad day for this local keeper

Even if the beekeeper had used ratchet straps, those intent on doing damage will find a way. 90% of people know how a tie-down strap works. In my area anyway.
