Re: Is an AI breeder queen worth it for 20-25

I looked in the dictionary. There is no slot for 'survivor stock' with respect to bees.

My guess would mean, 'survivor stock' are bees that were used as props in a stupid television show.

Re: A sign of the times

That does depend on the type, and the manufacturer. The basic surgical masks are basically paper throw away. The N95 types in use in our hospital are re-useable, but they have to be send off for...

    Re: Best Laid Plans

I will never buy nucs, no comb coming onto our property that wasn't drawn by our bees. If we have a desire to do re-stocking other than thru splitting our own, we buy packages. I really dont care...

    Re: Shelter in place...unintended consequences

My guess it would be the same news outfit that told America COVID-19 was just a hoax and 'fake news', it would pass by the weekend.

100,000 infected and 1700 dead. At what point does it stop...

Re: A sign of the times

Signs of the times, lots of it is bad and in some cases devastating news.

Then a ray of sunshine in the doom and gloom. Three kilometers up the road from us is the Shelter Point distillery, they...

Re: the flow? aka hive weights

12.7 over 10 days is not robbing. I've had my hive on a scale get into a robbing frenzy once, they did 12 pounds in 2 hours.

Re: Any beekeepers sick w CV-19? SURVEY

I know the poster is trying to imply that if you keep bees, there is a chance you are immune to COVID-19.

I can say with absolute 100% certainty, this is not the case.

Re: A sign of the times

No, I didn't miss your point. You may have missed mine. When folks resort to name calling, with statements like 'brainwashed idiots', my point is, they are essentially describing themselves.

I didn't vote either way, live in another country, but your description of half the electorated in USA is accurate.

    Re: Shelter in place...unintended consequences

For places close to the border, it's quite common to have a tour bus that stops by seniors centers then takes them on a shopping trip north of the border once a month or so. They typically head to...

Re: Any beekeepers sick w CV-19? SURVEY

Got a sneaking suspicion that'll do more harm than good, but, let me know how it goes :)

I took a different approach. When dad was quite ill toward the end he was struggling with breathing, so we...

Re: Things I WON'T get done this year

Well ain't that the truth. On sunday we decided to reboot 2020, unplugged, waited 20 seconds, plugged back in. Didn't seem to help, an hour later find out a good friend in the interior is in...
  14. Re: Bee-L member requesting Beekeepers donate their extra N95 Masks - DON'T DO IT!!!!

You seem to be confusing the Canadian Honey Council with some form of government. The label I posted comes from the CHC website.

but feel free to continue posting misinformation, apparently...

    Re: Understanding varroa treatment

reading about varroa control on beekeeping sites you will find an endless litany of hocus pocus

  17. Re: Bee-L member requesting Beekeepers donate their extra N95 Masks - DON'T DO IT!!!!

The large scale experienced over 50 beekeepers you are worried about dont use OAV. They use blue shop towels. OAV is the tool of choice for backyard and sideline beekeepers.
  18. Re: Bee-L member requesting Beekeepers donate their extra N95 Masks - DON'T DO IT!!!!

My wife is at work at the hospital as I type this. Daughter is at home in quarantine.

If my bees end up untreated and die because I gave up masks to keep them healthy, it's a small price to pay....

    Re: Shelter in place...unintended consequences

No, you cant argue with numbers. The capacity is 400 million a year. That's 33 million a month, double that is 66 million per month. In a couple weeks there will be a need for 10 million a day. ...

  24. Re: Let's just be honest: This spring is historically early.

10,000 years ago, the area where I live was under an ice sheet 2 miles deep. Today it's a boreal forest, and the reason for that is, the climate has been getting warmer for the last 10,000 years.

    Re: Shelter in place...unintended consequences
