    Re: UPS Lost my bees

Thanks Rader. Wonder if the carriers ensure their people are educated about what to do and what not to do with packaged bees.

    Re: UPS Lost my bees

So in the USA who pays in these situations? The vendor? Just interested.

I can tell a story from around 45 years ago when shipping bees out of New Zealand internationally was a developing thing...

    Re: UPS Lost my bees

Sticky problem for the package producer. Because they can demand UPS (or whatever other carrier) reimburse them, so they can reimburse the customer. But, if it costs the carrier, the carrier may just...

    Re: UPS Lost my bees

With good care, as per JW Palmer, a package can do a week, although the layer of dead bees on the bottom will get deeper over time.

However sitting somewhere in postage survival time may be a lot...

Re: creepy bug in a weak hive -- any ideas?

Weak hives with exposed comb can get all kinds of detritus eaters, almost invariably they do no harm.

Very difficult to ID with no photo.

Re: Any beekeepers sick w CV-19? SURVEY

Grozzie you may be very pleased of that oxygen concentrator. I spoke with a local guy who got the disease he is a fit and healthy 25 year old. He said that on the worst day he was very afraid, he...

Re: Any beekeepers sick w CV-19? SURVEY

I get stung quite a bit, and seem to contract the occasional cold, same as everyone else.

Got to consider that even if I got stung say, 20 times on a particular day, the amount of venom in my...
  10. Re: I have a cut-out, but no brood to give to them. How can I get them to stay?

About all you can do is put a queen excluder under the box to stop the queen leaving (if there is one), and hope for the best. If there is a queen there, and you give the bees some syrup, they should...
  11. Re: Sugar Syrup Feeder -- Help -- Pump Dry Run

    OK i understand.

Looks like only solution is employ some type of auto shutoff, they do exist, you would just cut the ignition wire of your pump and wire the shutoff into that.
  12. Re: Sugar Syrup Feeder -- Help -- Pump Dry Run

Both trash pumps, and some if not all rotary gear pumps will have issues running dry for 5 to 10 minutes.

How do i work around this? I walk over to the pump and turn it off. I don't see how it can...

    Re: Bad Day

To me that is like no death by poison event i have ever seen, that the bees collected from sprayed plants. Looks more like someone sprayed poison directly into the hive.

Unless it is due to some...

    Re: Bees Gone

OK, you say all was going well for ten years until you changed the treatment regime. Then after that you lose all the bees, twice.

That must beg the question, what did you change the treatment to?...

    Re: Possible computer virus threat

That's handy to know. There's been one here where they call and hang up before you have time to answer, hoping you will call them back. If you do, you get a bill.

    Here's one of the best...

    Re: Bees Gone

The bees left, is always a red flag to me. They left, implies they went somewhere. Occasionally the case but usually not. Death by mites, depending on weather at the time, can leave a hive pretty...

    Re: Corona-19 China Beekeepers

Hi Bernhard, it was a surprise to read your post. Seeing the high honey prices on shop shelves in the EU, i had assumed your beekeepers were doing well.

Here in NZ the industry is in crisis....

Sticky: Re: squarepeg 2015-2019 treatment free experience

I am now having winter queen failure in around 3% to 4% of hives, leading to deadout or nearly dead by first spring check.

I always breath a sigh of relief checking these hives and finding no dead...
