Welcome to THE FORUM. Take a step back and let them be bees. Keep them dry, ventilated, treated for mites especially in the fall and have food/water sources nearby. Make sure the queen has space to...
Google Roof Top Beehives In Durham, NC. There is a young lady (NC State Graduate) that has turned roof top beekeeping into a business.
Yes, you probably did. This time of the year when it is dry, no flowers, no nectar, scouts/foragers are searching. You drew bees from everywhere and when the source was gone they kept looking. If you...
I agree with Lburou, open feeding is an invitation to robbing this time of the year. Feed syrup as long as possible inside. Dry sugar poured into the cells of some empty comb works too.
My home county sprayed for mosquitoes last year. The operator contacted me, came by, and shut down his spraying 200 yards from the apiary.
I freeze all my frames (even foundationless) after use and then BT Sprayed on or paramoth in stacked boxes or clear plastic tubs.
Everyone who keeps bees has mltes. You may have colonies close by that were "mite bombs"; either wild bees or a treatment free apiary. Keep treating and talk to local beeks to see what they are...
FERN... take a deep breath! You need to ENJOY your bees but not get frustrated. Everything is based on location; North, South, urban, city, coastal, mountains, rangeland. I live in an urban area and...
Google it for a really good explanation. Everyone I know keeps it for baking/cooking needs.
I was curious too. Today's abbreviations ... worse than the military (imho).
The empty box above the inner cover works for me. i freeze them and give them back as winter feed. You can sprinkle sugar on the frames if you need additional feed.
Normal when they get too hot. Make sure they have good ventilation and space for Q to lay.
As long as they spray when it is dark you are probably fine. I would add a tarp loosely over the hive if they were spraying directly overhead.
You guys did good for newbies. Entrance feeders cause robbing episodes, add an empty box above the inner cover and put the feeders in there. It knocks down the odor and keeps the syrup a little...
I think bees will forage up close, it just depends on what and how much is available. I believe they get what they are told to do and the best first. I had a hive sitting in Oxalis and they worked...
That might be what happened to my queen that was out to be mated...b time will tell.
ditto on what elmer said. You need to keep checking your bottom brood box to make SURE they don't get honey/nectar bound. You want laying space for winter bees and if they have a good nectar source...

What he said!!!
Crofter is correct, remove an outside frame 1st and yes a congregation would usually mean the queen is there. In an old hive brood area, check to make sure it is not nectar/honey bound. The queen...
Try smoking the trap and the spot where the trap hung... heavy smoke will kill the scent of the last swarm. As suggested, put branches in front of the entrance to make them re-orient. Something thick...
It's all good and cloudy is better; tiny wax particles and pollen. Put it on warm toast or into coffee and enjoy. :D
If you can, pull those frames and give them back to the bees after the flow. They can use these to make the winter bees. If you extract them the extra pollen will NOT hurt the honey.
