    Re: How Much honey?

Well, Dan, I guess I can blame my upbringing. When I was a kid, we were not allowed to make demands of adults or talk back. We also joked around a lot and teased one another. Shame on the ones who...

    Re: No Beetles

I'm still not finding many beetles. I made some very weak splits this Spring to keep for insurance, they don't have beetles either. Usually, I find a few beetles under the inner cover of all hives,...
  3. Re: According To This, I've Done Everything Wrong, & My Plans Are Not Good

I am wondering if you checked the ejected pupae for mites. The reason I ask is because I often find Drone pupae on the landing boards of my hives the next day after inspections. My bees build Drone...

I'm glad I replied with quote to your first post, so others are still able to read what you wrote. First you didn't ask, you demanded what some may consider proprietary information. Then you sought...

Re: 1: 1 sugar syrup recipe?

I have a pitcher that is marked off in quarts. If I want 2:1, I pour water up to the 1, then pour sugar in until the water rises to the 3. Simple.

Re: Drone cells in the Treatment Free world

I've just never understood how breeding for varroa resistance could succeed if neither parent had been affected by them.

It is always interesting to note who is offended by an attempt at humor. I noticed your comment was edited by a moderator I can guess what the word was that was removed. Did you not see the smiley...

Re: Drone cells in the Treatment Free world

I have always wondered how many Varroa affected Drones make it to the DCAs and mate? If they don't, then they wouldn't be passing on the ability to survive mites, or would they?

    Re: What causes burr comb

Sounds like the smaller nuc is set to catch up. If your Queen doesn't have anywhere to lay, I would give her an empty frame of drawn comb if you can. It doesn't even need to be fully drawn. She...

    Re: What causes burr comb

I would take a frame of capped brood and a frame of drawn comb out of the strong hive and put it in the week hive. Just make sure you don't get the queen.

Not missing them, just fearing and waiting for the next shoe to drop.

I think it is because our ground around here has been saturated since September/October. That's the only thing different that...

On the Avery website you can design labels and save them to your account and download them to you computer for printing. The thing I like is after you make your design for quarts you can save it to...

    Re: No Beetles

We are seeing very few here, as well, maybe ten all year. We are not doing anything different than before, it has been nice not having to change DE and micro fiber strips. But, as Rich said, July is...

That article is short on details, wasn't it? Nothing is said about the Border Patrol agent getting stung, how he got the bees cleared from his truck or how he managed to get the lady and son into his...
  19. Re: OK to put harvested comb back into a hive (for brood or honey, etc)?

If you are harvesting a few frames at a time there is a lot of cleanup involved with extraction.
You could go with thin surplus foundation or none at all in your honey supers. That way you could cut...

Re: Was the queen being “balled”?

Although rarely, I have seen unmarked Queens on top of the inner cover or outside the upper ventilation hole or running around like mad. I think what you are seeing is the fight for dominance after...

    Re: Missouri

My understanding is Bumble Bees damage it when they work it, then Honey Bees can get to it. Same with Red clover. I read that on the internet, so take it with a grain of salt.
