    Re: Bottling question

    Re: Tordon 22K

Tordon 22K is a herbicide used mostly for tough broadleaf weeds, woody plants, trees & as stump killer, but it has lasting effects in the soil.. If they are not careful spraying, you should be very...
  5. Re: Kids shooting at my hives with a pellet gun?

If you get on the game cam, have them come with wood filler and fix their own dents. ;)

    Re: 2019 NUC Prices

I started a five nucs this spring just to sell locally to interested people (bought queens). I ended up selling them for $150 as 4H projects. I felt sorry the kids as well as the bees, and I made...

    Re: Bottling question

I use the honey gate on the bucket.....takes a bit to get used to it, but works very well.

Not at all. I was referring to averages.......maybe I should have used better wording. I'm sorry if I wounded your integrity. :lookout:

Ah, the truth is refreshing. JW's report is much closer, although a bit higher, than mine.

    Re: Caught swarm

Good going, bobs. I like to hive them asap because swarms like to start drawing comb as soon as they settle. I hate for them to waste their efforts on the inside of a box or bucket that they'll be...

I'd hive them asap and feed them 1:1 sugar water.

    Re: cardboard nuc fastener

I've never added screen to the cardboard nuc boxes.....the punched holes seem work good for ventilation. In the early spring I try to make a few nucs each year to keep or sell.....no problems so...
  15. Re: Clover in central Illinois-What type to plant

I planted yellow clover and white hubam clover last year on about 5 acres and the bees love it. The yellow blooms for a couple of weeks, and when it done the white is now starting.

    The county...

    Re: cardboard nuc fastener

Although I have a stapler like they suggest, I would suggest duct tape to take care of your problems....it sticks good to those waxed boxes.

    Adding Supers, which is better

When adding supers, is it better to add above or below a filled super? I've done both but never looked for or noticed a difference with outcome.

    Re: Capping honey question

They will cap it when it dries down to about 18% moisture. If you're having rain & high humidity, it may take bit longer. If a frame is 80% capped, it doesn't stop me from extracting. I will put...
  19. Re: Transitioning from Lang nuc to top bar hive...

That's probably true, but I have one TB that I'd like to be able to split into a Lang every now & then. That design of box would make it easier.

    Re: Honey Fakery

I was brought up to trust only small local honey producers (personally known) to get pure (real) honey. After tasting store bought, I tend to stick with my upbringing.

Your box design for transitioning from Lang to TopBar looks like it work for going the other way also. :applause:

I don't like being stung, but it causes me no threat to my health at present. BUT if I ever get killed by my girls, eh, what a way to go....I'll die happy. :applause:

Re: The perils of giving advice

All of you "advise givers" keep it up. I may not often ask for advise (I like to make my own mistakes), but I like reading the advise that you give to others hoping that it may sink in around the...

    Re: Check out this nuc

The portion of the videos that I watched makes me feel sorry for all the bees. All I can think of is that there is more money than sense here. :lookout:
