  1. Re: Drones Blind Queens with Semen

Yeah I think this is bologna, but I have been wrong before.
  2. Re: Is it tougher and tougher to control mites with OAV?

I agree with Old timer. OAV does not kill effectively for more than a few days. We also know it does not kill 100% of exposed mites during the prime effective time of the treatment. Another thing to...

    Re: Chinses Swarm commander

I have used both and really haven't seen anything that would make me feel it is any better. It does work, but so does Anise. Having hive smells like combs, propolis, and a decent cavity size is more...

    Re: Chinses Swarm commander

Lemongrass works exceptionally well. Add a little fresh beeswax and some propolis to the trap and you are set. Works great.

    Re: Re-queen for chalkbrood?

If you have a robust hive that can spare a frame of clean, emerging (or close to emerging brood) that would be a big plus. Young bees accept queens awesome and the extra workforce will help clean up...

    Re: Package VS. Nuc Challenge

You are righ, these packages have really looked terrible. I have had a few packages in the past that were fantastic though. I think the quality of the queen is the most important part. Clean bees...
  7. TF experiment swarm fail with 33% mite load. Will OAV 5 rounds in 21 days work?

Testing out the provap on this loaded down colony will 5 rounds in 21 days actually work?

Here is a couple days after round 4 with Alcohol wash test.

    Re: Re-queen for chalkbrood?

Good idea, maybe throw a shot of OAV or two to help clean out another pest while you're at it. See you on chat Ray

    Re: Re-queen for chalkbrood?

It is getting pretty late for you all I'd imagine. I am a firm believer in requeening hives that show signs of chalkbrood or foulbrood. No tolerance policy here. Works very well for us.

    Re: Package VS. Nuc Challenge

Well we started off with 3 commercial packages and 2 of our nucs. Our 2 nucs we have split into powerful young colonies so now we have 7. Unfortunately the packages have been a little lackluster. One...

Re: Where to buy bulk sugar?

Kelley's in Clarkson has prosweet starting at 38 cents a pound. Cheaper if you buy alot. The bees do very well with it.
  13. Re: Will bees pull out wax in NE Tennessee in August if I feed them?

Our bees are starting to bring in fall nectar from the wingstem and golden rod. The wax is whitening. Our colonies are well over a packed double due to getting plenty of TLC during our dearth. You...
  14. Re: Bees are omnivores and need the Amino Acids from microbes in bee bead.

Perhaps we can cultivate strains to make superior patties. The surprise at bees being an omnivore is weird. They should have known that already.

Re: splits in the same yard

    Yup shake those nurse bees.
  16. Re: OAD dosage and unwise to do a dribble during a dearth?

I recommend feeding syrup before and during your dribble period. If the bees are hard up on carbs they will try to consume some of the dribble if made with sugar syrup and it is rough on them.

    Re: Source for equipment dipping.

I did 50-50 and won't be doing anything different any time soon it works great. https://youtu.be/HX9T7j8dfnc our tank isn't fancy but it can do 3 boxes and I am super happy with the results.
  19. Legal documents for beeyards.

Hi all, I was trying to find what or where the best document(s) for beekeepers and land owners can use to cover everyone in case of damages. Thanks in advance.
  20. Re: You guys that raise Autumn queens: When do you graft?

I prefer to have my end of season queens mating during our fall flow which is primarily September. They can be sold or utilized in our own apiary this late here in North middle Tennessee. If I want...

    Re: Cat Urine

For sure! Nasty! Cat poop and urine probably would kill mites I'd bet though
  23. Sticky: Re: treating vs. not treating for mites: opinion thread

I agree with Oldtimer. We also have found that it takes a OAV treatment every 3-4 days for 3 weeks to make the mite populations drop down where they need to be. Very laborious on hundreds of colonies...
  24. Cheap pro sweet in Clarkson KY.

Hi all, just got 3.5 tons of pro sweet from Kelleys/mannlake in Clarkson KY. The price is 38 cents a 100lb. Cheaper if you buy alot more. The folks at Kelleys like Jennifer, Paul, and Kathryn are...
  25. Re: Why did my bees die - summer edition

Viruses or efb we never throw away the combs. Just let them air out for a while. AFB would be a different story but thankfully none of that has ever been here. I just sent in some comb and bee...
