  1. Re: What to do with a Queen-less, Honey-less hive?

I am looking at going this route tommorow.

    Thanks for the help everyone.

Looks like water polo is still on.
  2. What to do with a Queen-less, Honey-less hive?

Had my original hive swarm this spring, and it failed to requeen. I gave it 2 frames of brood 4 weeks ago. Did a check today, still no brood, just random drone cells sprinkled through some of the...

Checked one of my five hives here at home this morning, and one had about 50 plus dead bees at the entrance, and on the ground in front of it.

    Re: Anybody raise monarchs?

    Ha!
Your monarchs would do better if you tend to them.

Do you plant the milkweed, or do you just let it grow as it comes?

    Re: Anybody raise monarchs?

Look for eggs/caterpillars under milkweed leaves. Give them fresh leaves as needed. Give them a good spot for a chrysalis. Let them outside when they turn into butterflies.

    Amatuer birder here myself.

You guys need to teach your tree swallows to do this. We haven't got them to do it this year, but last year we had success.

Re: Feral hive swarmed twice in three days?

Ok, thanks. I guess by "up and running", I meant activity/progress that I needed to check :)

Feral hive swarmed twice in three days?

Does that mean the second swarm is likely a virgin queen? It was significantly smaller than the first swarm.

And what time frame should I check the new hives on?
