    Re: UPS Lost my bees

That would have been my recommendation in the first place.
    Keep it local.
    Glenn won't "lose" your bees.
  2. Re: Shelter in place...unintended consequences

What is DISGUSTING is that this has happened before and apparently we didn't learn anything.
Will we learn ANYTHING this time?

    Re: Varroa in drone brood

The idea of "thresholds" is an obsolete concept.
With the ever increasing threat of multiple viral implications, varroa loads must be addressed regularly.

    >Should I be worried?<

    Only if you...

Will arrive back in Oregon Saturday night, 3/7/20
For us it was one of the best almond trips in a number of years.

Re: How close to Row Crops can I be

    I have 2 suggestions:
    1) Read this carefully:
    https://catalog.extension.oregonstate.edu/pnw591

    2) Make friends with your neighbor farmer.
Let them know you aren't some radical, anti-everything...
  7. Re: First Almond Blooms Today in Northern California

  8. Re: First Almond Blooms Today in Northern California

This is the best conditions for almonds and bees in a number of years.
    Last year sucked really bad!
  9. Re: First Almond Blooms Today in Northern California

THAT is some really good news!
  10. Re: First Almond Blooms Today in Northern California

My "Orland Area" grower reports that bloom is all over the place.
Some orchards are moving ahead rapidly, others at a more normal rate.
I've heard of full bloom mid week next week.

    Re: nuc sales agreement

Are you saying that there is something wrong with using purchased queens in the making up of nucs?
Just trying to understand your comment.
  12. Blue Diamond Almond Bloom Reports.

I have many friends that live in California and place hives in Almonds.
They get to monitor the bloom as it progresses.
For the rest of us, once the hives are worked, and in place we return to our...
  13. Re: First Almond Blooms Today in Northern California

I really appreciate your reports, Mike.
I hope you'll update us often as our bees are just a few miles south of Orland.
Looks like Blue Diamond is going to post more frequent reports this year:...

  15. First Almond Blooms Today in Northern California

After near 80F temperatures, we saw the first blooms for 2020 opening on the Winters variety.
First bloom on Feb 11 has been common in the past.
The last few years have been earlier.
    Now the big...
  16. Re: Why does everyone think used equipment is ALL bad?

I set a policy in our operation almost 30 years ago.
"We do not bring in ANY used equipment".
Hive equipment is WAY too inexpensive to bring in used stuff.
Also, I am very particular and specific...

    Re: Bookkeeping

Quickbooks pro is one of my favorite reasons for owning a computer.
As you enter income and expenses, it does all of the work for you in the background.

    Re: Global Warming

    BINGO!!!
Everyone just loves to stand around and belly-ache about politicians.
Yet, it is the low information voters that continue to vote them in over and over.

    Re: Global Warming

After 28 years of beekeeping; the only bees absconding that I have heard about were on Beesource.
  22. Re: Respirator suggestion to use with Easy Vap

I didn't say anything against 3M or any other brand.
I'm quite sure they all work fine with the PROPER RESPIRATOR USE, STORAGE, & SELECTION.
  23. Re: Respirator suggestion to use with Easy Vap

OSHA finally mandated a Respirator Protection Standard for industrial workers in 2005, and it's obvious to see why.
Prior to the mandate for employers to provide standardized education, training,...

    Re: Foam filled tires

O.K. I get the idea of water as added wheel weight.
We do the same in our old Ford tractors.
    But foam?
    Does foam add weight; really?

    Re: Foam filled tires

    Just curious:
What's wrong with good old air?
Do these forklifts have a tendency for tires walking off the rims?
    If so, why?
