    Re: Simple Harmony Farms Uncapper

I use it. We have 4ish hives, so no need for high capacity equipment. It can be a little tricky on uneven frames, but overall I would recommend it

Re: I accidentally killed a queen!!

I've been there. Get an emergency queen. Sometimes people selling packages have extras. Don't wait.

    Queen Rearing with Mediums?

I flew out to Purdue last June to take their course on Queen Rearing. It was an enjoyable and educational experience. Upon my return I realized that everything I learned was based on deeps, and I...

Re: new river honey bee queen

I bought a mated New River queen and introduced it in a split a month ago. Appears to be laying well.

I have a better idea; why not keep a hive on your roof? Let me know if you need help, I'm on the UWS

    Harvesting honey

I know this sounds like a dumb question..... does it matter to the bees if you remove frames of capped honey as they are made, or is there a reason to allow them to complete an entire box?

Re: getting bees to work plastic

Nancy, I just received my Lyson solar melter. Do you use it for cappings as well? Do you do any type of filtering or cleaning first?

    Re: 80 in NY

I don't have any italians. 2 Palmer hives, one VSH Carny, 1 WV Mountain queen, 1 Anarchy.
None of them showed signs of queenlessness to me; bringing in pollen, fairly calm, etc. I didn't do a full...

    80 in NY

Did a full inspection on my hives. Surprised not to find brood in any of them. Is it the late spring?

Re: New River Honey Bees in West Virginia

I had ordered from Dan O'Hanlon in the past. He is retiring, and recommended Jason at New River. I have had good experiences with the Mountain State Group, and would trust Jason to be a good breeder.

    New Seek Thermal camera; Whoops!

I finally gave in and got a thermal camera. I figured it's better than peeking! But apparently it's not foolproof!

Hard to say if it was during introduction or mating, but the queens never laid. I eventually shook out the hive.

I purchased a nuc and several virgin queens from Jeff Berta. I wasn't successful with any of them. I know full well that this isn't necessarily a knock on him and could have been beekeeper error, but...

    Re: Early dead out

I inspected the frames yesterday. There were frames with a noticable amount of white poop on the roof of the cells, but not overly pronounced. I treated this hive once in the spring when I installed...

    Early dead out

I was surprised to see one of my previously strong hives completely gone yesterday. I had done mite counts, which were low. I treated 3 times this fall with my new ProVap. I noticed after each...
