Re: Is fall treatment for varroa obligatory?

You have mites. Why waist your time killing bees to test for them.
If you're going to treat, then treat. If you're not going to treat, then don't.

But if you are going to treat, the "generally...

    Re: Oxylic acid schedule

I have a ProVape110 so it takes about 20 seconds per hive. I bought it last year and attribute my last winter's 100% survival rate to it.

    1. whenever the most bees are inside the hive. Coolest...

Re: ... and I thought it was 'just' beeswax.

the first thing that came to mind after reading this was the varroa heat treatment devices that, as I recall, heat the hive to 113F.

  6. Re: Do you clean and reuse plastic foundation or throw them away?

I have a basement sink with a sprayer. I have, in the past, used it to remove the fermented nectar and other nastiness.
Then I set it on the ground outside and the ants clean out any remaining...

  8. Re: OA vape 5 days vs. 7 days apart - what do you recommend?

I personally wouldn't rely on a paper mask when, for a few $s more, you can get the one below.
    I use one of these....

    Re: Pierco plastic frames

Small Hive Beetles love the hiding spaces around the edges and the top hangers. I suggest poring melted wax in the holes.

    Re: Ohio Bee Box Company

they did get in touch with me, eventually, and I did get my 2 or 3 orders.
it took a little more than a month.
I hope they get caught up and their "stuff" together because I like their products.

SHB dead-out and the honey being robbed out.

I saw a thread earlier this week or last about a hive that had been a slimmed dead-out and the OP had extracted the honey.
This got me thinking. I wouldn't want that honey but the bees do.
    So my...

Re: Bee Mites crawling on my new bee hives!

It would be helpful to know what part of the world we're talking about.
In the SE USA I had those or something similar and we decided they were Thrips {sp} or something like that.
    I have a thread...

  21. Re: Does Pollen coming always mean there is a queen/eggs?

I took a good look at them today and it was a complete swarm, just a small one. saw new eggs, larva, and capped brood.
  22. Re: Does Pollen coming always mean there is a queen/eggs?

I'm considering that but I may just combine them to an existing hive since the swarm is so small.
  23. Re: Does Pollen coming always mean there is a queen/eggs?

It would take more than a few weeks to create a laying worker wouldn't it?
