    Fumigilin-B

    Re: honey production this year

bout 70lb a hive our here in Alberta, but they drew out about 6 boxes a hive too, so that's not too bad. Best I heard of was 280lb / hive.

Re: How long can bees stay frozen?

By new hive I assume you mean bare foundation, no drawn comb, and therefore little to no ability to store food. In conditions where weather forces a cluster, bees within a few inches of food will...

    Re: Straining melted beeswax

I push all my wax into cheap nylon stockings, throw them in a pot, and bring it up to almost boiling, when the wax melts out, all you have left in the stocking is the sludge, and you let the wax cool...

Re: Nuc isn't growing at all.

They won't draw new comb if they don't need it. If you are feeding syrup and pollen patties you should be seeing new comb drawn. If you are not feeding, and you're in a dearth, or you only have young...

    Re: Setting up double Nucs

As for the physical construction of the nucs, I made a photo album of one method that I'm trying, and there are some good links in the album description too...

    Re: Dead queen

Bee math. 10 days since you installed. Most of the bees will be dead from the original package at 45 days from install. If they are trying to make a queen, or you give them a frame of eggs to do so,...

Re: They planted corn this week...some bees died

Up in my neck of the woods, (or close enough), they did some studies and found that specifically during corn and soy planting, the insecticide-laced dust that resulted was a major cause of some...

Re: 1st ever Queen Cell. Queen math help needed

16 days to hatch a queen
    10 days till mating flight
    3-4 days till first laying

So, yes, 3 weeks or so. Packages often supercede their queen, from what I understand. With 20 days' laying time for...

Re: comb stuck to sides of hive

Making the sides at 120 degrees will help minimize attachments, supposedly. In my brood area where the comb is well established they haven't reattached after I cut it off the wall a few times.. in...
