    I'll Admit My Hurried Stupidity

I have one traditional top bar hive among 20 Langs, and I did something really stupid to them yesterday.

I know one of my hives swarmed a couple of days ago. I watched them come through the...
  3. Re: Neighbor contesting our beekeeping permit - advice for the upcoming hearing?

I would simply place a "FOR SALE" sign in the front yard and move to a county with less restrictions, and begin living like a free man.

    Free Honey Supers

I picked up several honey supers for free at a garage sale. They contain fully drawn frames with nice light colored wax. :)

A neighbor told me later that the old guy who owned the supers...

Re: When to transfer a swarm box into a hive

    pmartens,

When you R&R comb, always replace it in the same orientation as removed. In your video, it appears that you replaced it upside down. (Comb is built with a slight upward angle, and...

Re: What to Plant in 1/4 Acre

My bees love the Hansen Cherry Bushes. Check for them in garden catalogs that also have trees and bushes. They're easy to grow and bloom early.

Re: A sign of the times

I don't know if this has been addressed for those of us who are "prepping" a bit for the long haul, but if you are, don't forget that when or if it really gets bad (ugly bad) you need to be able to...

    Re: Thinking About Long Langstroth

I started this long lang last year from a smallish swarm. (it's actually a double hive...I just have one side occupied at present). I used a pre-made box that my son picked up at an auction. ...
  13. Re: Do corn fields offer much good pollen for our bees?

I always bought from ML....and always received my order within 5-6 business days. Last order took considerably longer. When I emailed to inquire, I received a reply from kelleybees.com. Never a...

Re: Varroa Mitigation Entrance using Nail Brushes

Jojojaro, have you tried a small trapeez at the entrance to the hive. Force the bees to swing across into the hive and the centrifugal force at the bottom of the arc will force the mites to drop off...

Re: Melt in your mouth Honey caramel!

The 3-4 batches that we made were probably a bit softer than store bought caramel, but that's the way we like it. It doesn't stick to my teeth and makes it easier to chew. We added nearly a cup of...
