    Re: oa dribble freqency

So much conflicting information. No wonder I'm confused.

I only did about half of my hives with dribble. I will do a 2nd round between Thanksgiving and Christmas as well. There are still a...

I have a wand but after doing dribble recently to about half of my hives I very much like it more.

We are nearly bloodless now. I'm trying to figure out if I can do dribble again...

I know some that do but only after our spring flow has dried up because NY is anywhere from 2 weeks to 1 month behind us. The fall flow starts earlier there and they bring them back down for the...

Last fall by necessity I left the fall honey on a few I could not get to. In spring, on inspection, I pulled full frames of fall honey from those very same hives.

I decided to not harvest any...

    Re: nuc abscond question

I lost 3 nucs the same way this summer. We had a week up sunny 90+ and when I went to retrieve them, 3 of the 4 nucs I created were gone. I chalked it up to heat and next time will pay more...
  6. Re: Still have lots of drone brood so today I grafted.

I am 100% out of space or I would try some for fun as well. I need to make boxes for the last batch and don't have time. Making more bees would not be a good idea.
  7. Re: I dropped my queen outside my hive in the grass

I would guess she is back home unless you stepped on her.

    Re: Swarm Trapping questions

Because I didn't have spare boxes. Everything was occupied with splits & nucs. Why waste a box on a maybe when the split or nuc is already a sure thing?

Even now I'm pressed for spare boxes. ...

    Re: Swarm Trapping questions

I tried several years to catch a swarm without success. Often times my swarm traps would be full of scouts only to deliver disappointment in a week or two. So, I bought a nuc.

    This year was the...

Re: HELP ME! no fall flow?? lazy bees???

Why not pull off the 40 to 90 pounds of honey in July and harvest it? Isn't that the point of having bees? I treat in August with supers off and will put one back onto the really strong hives to...

I would just use a chlorine solution then give it a good rinse. Plenty of people on here add chlorine to their syrup to keep it from spoiling.

I also believe, from having aquariums as a kid, that...
  13. Re: Hive Locations when you aren't a landowner?

People at work know that I have bees because I sell honey on the downlow. One gentleman was asking me lots of questions about raising and growing them like he was interested in having them. I said...

    Re: August Splits

You may be OK but it's close. Drawn comb is the deciding factor I believe. Judging by the amount of Goldenrod I see, with the early variety blooming, we could have a very good fall flow.

  16. Re: Made 2 splits , can I add more bees to one

In your picture it looks like 2, 5 frame nucs stacked at 90 degree angle. You could try swapping them. That usually moves the foragers to the box in the original location.

Re: Too late to split in CT?

I would say too late or very close to being too late. If you made the split today, the queen wouldn't start laying until August 26. I'm not sure that would leave enough time for winter bees. At...

First time marking I dropped her and she flew away. After looking all over the ground around me, being careful not to step her, I got into the hive.

She had flown back and I was quite relieved.
  19. Re: Urgent Question: Just spun out frames, how do I recover the wax?

Most of the time you leave the wrecked honeycomb on the frame. The bees will repair it and refill it during your next flow or next season. The wax you harvest would be the cappings wax left over...
  20. Re: I just put 5x5 nuc into double 10-frame deeps: observations; the right thing to d

They may not draw out the frames. We are still in clover (thankfully!) but I just got out of my hives and new wax seems to almost have stopped. I'm not too far north of you. For me, usually by...

Sticky: Re: Shrinking population - what do I do?

Isn't EFB state reportable? I believe to be licensed & approved in PA to sell nucs & queens you need to be inspected and one thing they look for is foulbrood.

Either way, if you have state bee...

    Re: Horrible mating numbers

I'm torn on the 2 frame mating boxes. I use them the last time I had a good graft* and thought I was set. The other hives robbed the heck out of them while I was at work. When I got to them it was...
  23. Re: I had to have missed one! Please check my math.

:applause: Doesn't feel like much of a win. I'm already up against the end of the season and am going away next week. I will graft Friday, cross my fingers this doesn't happen again, and hope I...
  24. I had to have missed one! Please check my math.

Today was the day to move queen cells from my last round of grafting. When I had checked on day 1, there was a decent amount that seemed to have been accepted. Today when I opened it up...nothing,...

If what I think i am seeing is correct...it is very bad. You are new and I have never dealt with it and don't want to needlessly scare you.
