  1. Re: Why the heck won't they gain weight (after ALOT of feeding).

    Roland,
Could you elaborate on old comb? Do you see a difference in where hive is placed? heavy ag or suburbs?
When do you call a comb old?

    Bet we can find common ground here;

    Re: Global Warming

We do not have to agree on the cause of Global warming to find some common ground. Remember the 70's gas lines. Do we want to be an energy vulnerable economy? Is energy source diversity a sound goal?...

What's the law in NY? Is an inspection by the State inspector required prior to all bee sales?

  11. Re: This is getting ridiculous (Varroa and OAV treatment)

    5. Not all bees are loyal to their hive in my personal subjective opinion. When the home hive's fait is set, there are those bees that join up with the victors. That is the method of transfer that is...
  12. Re: This is getting ridiculous (Varroa and OAV treatment)

Certainly would fit the mite bomb situation and some mites certainly would be available to hop on the next robber ride. Most, not under cap, would depart with the abscond.

    Wonder how many capped...
  13. Re: This is getting ridiculous (Varroa and OAV treatment)

The mite leaving the bee to wait is not demonstrated directly as far as I know. Indirectly in the 2nd link is discussion of a mite being found on a shipment of cut flowers and discussion of the mite...

The ready to produce evidence is only lurking in the back corners of my mind as something I read. That is a rather cluttered space.
  17. Re: This is getting ridiculous (Varroa and OAV treatment)

I've always been a little perplexed by the robbing out a dying mite bomb theory. Two things are missing from the telling (or hearing) of the tale. Robbing is a relatively short lived event, it is...
  18. Re: Is this robbing in progress? Anything to do?

When in doubt close it down. Narrow is not going to hurt anything.
Those robbers are going to try the next hive in line. Sometimes they will settle for dry sugar as bait in a empty body a little bit...

6 penny =.12 inch (without CNC control)
    2 mm =.0787 inch

Re: Mouse Guard and Entrance Reducer for Winter

Disturbed a mouse out of an empty nuc, she ran full speed through the 3/8 gap and into another empty nuc with six good sized babies hanging onto her teats. Didn't even slow down.

No, It means you do not have a good picture of snow fog off the water and how far and fast the temp swing can be off the water.

Re: Mountain Camp - proactive or reactive?

I've killed nucs with MC. Very cold for along stretch, sudden warm up with wind off the water making snow fog that turned the sugar into a dripping mess. Happens.
