  1. Re: Oxalic acid is harmless - I don't bother removing honey supers any longer.

I hope you are kidding as this acid can be extremely harmful even in the vapor format when applied to colonies. There are many beekeepers who will be suffering serious health issues and lung problems...

    Re: APIVAR

What do you do if you have to leave some supers on that have not capped. As I understand it the supers must be removed. Will they be able to be used next year?
    Thanks

    Insurance

Can anyone recommend a company for insurance for beekeepers? I am not concerned with crop or apiary loss but rather liability thet may result from someone who purchases my honey. One lawsuit can wipe...

    Re: APIVAR

IThis information was very helpful and I will try Apivar this year. Since it should be used with our supers on what would you suggest I do with those supers that have not filled or remain uncapped. I...

    APIVAR

Has anyone had experience with Apivar. I am planning to use it after I harvest my honey and pull the supers. There are always some supers that I can not pull as they are not capped so I leave them...

    Re: Hobbyist bottling tank suggestions?

I would appreciate it if you could explain in detail how you melt your cappings and how you make your syrup.
    Thanks

    Re: Obnoxious guard bee

Just had one of those critters sting the back of my head in the small area in the back of a baseball cap. I find they are getting rather protective with large honey stores and here we are having...
  10. Re: returning wet supers after extracting; how to avoid robbing frenzy?

Psfred: Why do you replace above the inner cover? Why not just place them above the remaining boxes as the bees will get into them any way? Does the small opening on the inner cover helping someway?

    Re: Drying honey after extraction

Very interesting contraption.I had about 5 buckets last year with same problem. Put them in an enclosed room, turner on the fan, partially covered them to avoid dust, and used a dehumidifier. I...

    Re: Hobbyist bottling tank suggestions?

I am not certain how much you want to spend but Maxant makes excellent tanks. I use their 16 gallon tank with dripless valve.

I think you have a DuPage County bee club there you should consider joining.

    Re: Obnoxious guard bee

I have many more colonies but there always seems to BEE a guard bee around. Try wearing a hat and they love deodorant, perfume and soap fragrances. I have the same issue for years but ignore it.

    Cleaning Honey Buckets

What does everyone use for cleaning their honey buckets before use. I generally just use hot water and dish soap and then rinse several time and dry. I go to such a great extent to sanitize my jars,...
  16. Re: Flow in Northern Illinois, Chicago suburbs

I am in northern Illinois and everything blooming. Just noticed the wild roses opened yesterday. I have a strong flow going. I have about 2 supers that are filled with nectar and some are capped or...

    New Queens

I received some new queens and placed them in queenless hives. The hives have large bee populations but no brood or eggs. Can the hive survive without brood or should I take some frames from another...

    Re: Recommendation on Robbing

Thought I would add a final comment to my saga. I do not believe the hives were robbed as I have gone through most of them and the comb on the frames was not harmed. I did note I lost about 3 queens...

I agree. Ironic, my wife purchased face masks from Walgreens this week and when I opened the box they were made in China.
  21. Re: What’s your favorite way to requeen with mated queen?

Its a matter of timing but in most instances including next week I add new queens when the old one has swarmed or is dead. I use a push in cage. I test first by laying the cage on top of the frames...

    Re: Under Supering

I would first check your deep as one deep with the excluder as this setup can easily be the basis for swarming. Next I place the empty super on top, predominately because lifting the lower heavier...
