Re: Bees moving to neighbors hive?

It all depends on how you define effective. If a "one and done" treatment is desired, OAV is not the right product. But if I can treat in September or October and have a 1000+ DDC, I would say the...

Re: OA VAP 110.04 Oxalic Acid Vaporizer

I misread your post to mean that you were not getting the chatter on Beesource that you had hoped for. Glad tht your sales are doing well.

Re: Bees moving to neighbors hive?

I agree with Jack and Frank. And the bees that moved in brought their mites with them. Now is a perfect time to get an OAV treatment done and have it kill almost all the mites in a hive.

    You...

    Re: Cherry Blossom Honey

My personal experience with cherries, I have three trees, is that they bloom very early in the season and then for only for about two weeks. Could be the variety though. I have the Richmond sour...

Re: OA VAP 110.04 Oxalic Acid Vaporizer

Joerg, don't get discouraged. You are offering this vaporizer in the for sale forum at a time when those that needed one this year have already purchased one, and those that might want one next year...
  6. Re: So, what did you scrounge today? Braggin encouraged

Around here, places that specialize in making hydraulic hoses (e. g., Cardinal Rubber) also cut custom gaskets. I would have thought Buna-n or neoprene would have held up well in that application,...
  7. Re: So, what did you scrounge today? Braggin encouraged

Major score this week. I regularly bid on restaurant equipment auctions to find stuff for the honey side of beekeeping. I had bid up to $12 for a small digital scale with a 2# capacity. Got outbid....

    Re: Feeding honey in winter

Yikes! I can think of a whole lot of things to do with $600 worth of honey that does not include giving it back to the bees. Sugar is so much cheaper and, according to some, is better for them in the...

  10. Re: Welch's frozen concentrate grape juice discontinued

I think the key is to look at the ingredients. Pasturization should not cause a problem but any sulfites would. I am going to check out the offerings at my local Wallyworld this weekend.
  11. Re: Welch's frozen concentrate grape juice discontinued

I tried Googling specifically for Welch's frozen grape juice concentrate and only got two hits, both sold out.

I found my sweet wine recipe from 45 years ago. 1-12 oz can of concentrate, 4 cups of...
  12. Re: Welch's frozen concentrate grape juice discontinued

Even the non-frozen concentrate in soda style cans is out of stock. Weird. Looks like the regular strength 100% grape juice in a jar is still available. How many quarts to make five gallons of wine?

    Re: smaller dry pollen feeder?

I put a couple of mason jars full of pollen sub on their sides inside a hive body with a bottom board and top. Works well for me and doesn't cost anything.

Re: Need Bees to move along

The OP said he lived in Southern California. I am guessing winter means jeans and a long sleeved shirt.

    Re: Black Friday Sales

What Larry (snl) said. It is usually explained in the catalogue. Try to source locally, go foundationless, or wait until it gets warm again. I might have some I could send you to tide you over. I am...

Re: Dadant two piece heated bottling tank

They support the through fittings and keep them from moving which could break the sight glass or cause a leak.

Re: Need Bees to move along

I am interested in how this all turns out as well. Who knows, after seeing the in and outs of beekeeping, you may decide that it is way cool and find the time to become a beekeeper yourself!

Re: My first Melomel - elderberry mead

You can send me the other bottle for "safe keeping". Glad that the melomel came out tasty. When I do the raspberry melomel, I'll post what I did.

Not seeing any more activity in the secondary of...

Re: Need Bees to move along

Seems to be a nice small sized swarm. I am not familiar with the temps in SoCal, but if winter stays above 60, I don't see why a local beek would not come get them for free.

    You might talk to that...

I doubt you are any more humid than we are here in Richmond, VA. I do like Frank and use rabbeted joints on the boxes I make, but like the tight fitting joints of a well made finger joint. The...
