Re: Extending Shelf Life of 2:1 Sugar Syrup

Sorry to rupture your peace, but it is always by weight in my books. I know the old way of volumetric measuring is hard to die, but the weight is what we need (not on our hips).

Re: OAV, putting the risk in perspective

Personal safety is no accident! Be careful Ladies & Gentlemen!

Treating with the supers off should be a standard, why risk problems if it can be easily avoided.

    Re: OAV overdose?

@oldtimer, thanks, very interesting. BTW, we call "gib tape" dry wall tape.

You might be killing my OA Vap sales, but what ever helps the bee keepers!

    Best wishes to NZ, Joerg

    Re: Old bee keeper

@logicallycompromised, not clear whom you address. Clearly, if moisture is around 75-80% on top of B1 & particularly B2, all is good, but if B2 increases to 80-90%, their is problems brewing. I have...

    Re: Old bee keeper

    @jmobee,

While I agree that it is great to monitor the temperature in the hives, I know by now that it only shows the movement of the bee cluster during winter, the humidity sensor shows the...

    Re: OAV overdose?

Well, Robert, I don't know if that will go through as scientific proof.

I am certain it has been established well enough that 3 gram for a double deep brood box setup is the standard, 1.5 - 2 gram...

    Re: Band heater vaporizer.

Hello Rogue26, the manufacturers say to not heat them up to full load at startup. I use mine with 135C first, check recovery with water several times and then go to the 204C, 400F. It is, as trj...

    Re: Help with Comb Honey

    Hello cyber,

I had bad luck this year too, everything did go in snail speed and a good strong flow is essential (strong hive too). Hive development was way behind flowering (or flowering was ahead...

    Re: queen excluders

I know JimD asked for what is better, but why use them at all? If you don't use them you don't need to clean or worry about them.

I don't use any, don't see the sense for the bees having to...

  23. Re: Monitoring Hive Temp and Humidity during the winter here in Ohio

The temperature pickup point needs to be in the center and top of the frames, preferably one in B1 and B2 so one can monitor the position of the cluster. The humidity should be taken from the same...
